Sompo has a unique opportunity for an AVP, Property Account Engineer in our Risk Control Division.
Combining decades of experience and deep industry knowledge with collaborative and practical risk management programs, Sompo’s Risk Control experts monitor emerging trends and risks and work with clients to minimize their loss potential and stay ahead of the unexpected. We take a collaborative approach to provide our clients with risk control services specific to their business. We work with each insured to tailor our recommendations and identify cost-effective solutions for mitigating risks.
As an AVP, Property Account Engineer, you will deliver risk improvement consultation to our large and middle-market commercial property clients with high-value or complex risks. In this role, you will focus on coordinating field consulting services to assess insurable exposures and evaluate risk controls, supporting underwriters in account selection and pricing, and driving positive change through strategic risk mitigation recommendations.
Location: This role offers the flexibility to work remotely or in-office, with a preference for candidates located in the Southeast, such as North Carolina, South Carolina, or Georgia.

What you’ll be doing:
Evaluate new and renewal accounts to determine the need for surveys and services, focusing on large and select complex middle market property accounts
Conduct technical reviews of engineering reports and perform desktop account assessments to support underwriting decisions
Prioritize account assignments and coordinate client engagements to align with departmental objectives and timelines
Conduct on-site visits to assess exposures, validate risk conditions, and provide actionable loss control recommendations
Develop and communicate effective risk mitigation strategies to influence client decision-making and drive improvements
Monitor and ensure client compliance with recommendations to reduce risk and exposure
Analyze loss trends, emerging risks, and new technologies to enhance risk control offerings and support continuous improvement
Represent the company at client and broker meetings, industry networking events, and professional social engagements
What you’ll bring:
Minimum of 10 years of risk control experience within commercial insurance industry, with a strong focus on property loss control
In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with fire protection systems and property risk assessments
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field; professional designations such as PE, CFPS, or ARM are highly preferred
Proven ability to plan strategically, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks to meet both production and business objectives
Willingness and ability to travel to client sites for risk assessments and consultations
