Under technical direction, assists in building next generation data capabilities to enable superior decision support and insight generation. Supports data and processes for the pricing, underwriting, claims, operations and marketing for a mix of business insurance products. Only Chicago Based candidates will be considered JOB DESCRIPTION: Essential Duties & Responsibilities 1. Assembles large and complex data sets from disparate data sources into consumable formats that meet business requirements. 2. Creates efficient and reproducible ETL Data Pipelines using SQL, Python or big data tools such as Spark. 3. Works closely with Data Science, Development Operations and data management teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs. 4. Builds and maintains capabilities for data quality control, identifies data quality issues and pipeline failures. 5. Builds exploratory Dashboards and tools for data scientists and business partners that can be deployed relatively quickly and require low maintenance support. 6. Creates streamlined processes for geocoding internal data for matching to external sources. 7. Collaborates with application owners to help define data collection requirements. 8. Works with Data Scientists to understand requirements and help design systems and processes to deliver business value. Researches new uses for existing data. 9. Builds infrastructure required for flexible and scalable extraction, transformation and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources. 10. Design and implement functionality, participate in team code reviews, and provides feedback on performance, logic, standard methodologies and maintenance issues to ensure code-level consistency. 11. Creates production quality code to support deployment of predictive models. 12. Produces coherent documentation, metadata, and reports. 13. Own data processing pipelines from conception to production deployment. Reporting Relationship Manager or above Skills, Knowledge and Abilities 1. Strong SQL knowledge and proven experience working with relational databases. 2. Demonstrated experience in manipulating, merging, cleaning, profiling, and preparing large datasets for analytics, from disparate sources. 3. Working knowledge of Python and experience working with XML and JSON formats. 4. Practical experience with version control, preferable git. 5. Experience implanting and maintaining ETL and CI/CD data pipelines. 6. Ability to write efficient, well documented data wrangling code. 7. Intellectual curiosity to find new and innovative ways to solve data management issues. 8. Employ an array of technologies and tools to connect systems together. 9. Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills. 10. Attention to detail and accuracy of work, ability to spot and correct issues. 11. Drive to continuously improve and learn new tools and methods. 12. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues with diverse perspective and backgrounds. 13. Strong time management skills. 14. Capable of operating with little supervision and thinking independently and innovatively. Education and Experience 1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline, or equivalent work experience. 2. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $54,000 to $103,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
