Job Opportunity:
BHSI has an exciting opportunity for a Field Engineer to join the Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics (CAT E&A) team in the central Florida region, specifically in the general Tampa or Orlando area. CAT E&A is an innovative and versatile technical team which conducts catastrophe risk research and development and provides complex quantitative metrics that inform property insurance underwriting decisions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the physical assets of industrial and commercial properties from a fire and windstorm perspective, with an emphasis on windstorm.
While we are interested in candidates with multiple years of experience in the industry, we are also open to candidates who are eager to learn and coming from college.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct site visits to…
- Obtain building construction characteristics.
- Assess the condition and wind resistance capacity of exterior building components.
- Review construction drawings and contractor submittal packages.
- Obtain basic fire protection information.
- Review human element programs.
Communicate findings, both verbally and written to the CAT E&A analysts and property insurance underwriters.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Degree or equivalent (focus on construction-related engineering/management is preferred).
- 0-4 years professional experience (experience with building envelope design and/or on-site evaluations from a windstorm perspective is a plus).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly motivated and well-organized, detail oriented, and a team player.
- 20-30% of travel is expected in this role.
