Position Summary
This position reports into the Surplus Lines Tax Manager. As the Senior Surplus Lines Tax Coordinator, they are responsible for the support and execution of the filing and payment of surplus lines taxes. Individual must maintain working knowledge of surplus lines tax regulation. This regulatory insurance tax reporting position is deadline driven in reporting taxes to 51 tax jurisdictions.
What will your job entail?
Job Responsibilities:
- Timely and accurate completion of state regulatory surplus lines tax filings for 51 tax jurisdictions by either utilizing the state’s filing website or state approved form.
- Complete surplus lines state tax returns using approved state forms and creates corresponding check request for payment of surplus lines tax.
- Reconcile state filings with open payable reports prior to submitting check requests.
- Create and/or maintain open payable reports for multiple entities.
- File zero reports where required for multiple entities.
- Conduct compliance and quality review on documents associated with a surplus lines tax filing. If documents are not correct, coordinates with broker teams to make appropriate corrections to ensure timely filings.
- Maintain an open line of communication with broker teams regarding surplus lines taxes.
- Communicate with state insurance departments to ensure proper statutory compliance with applicable surplus lines laws and codes.
- Assist Surplus Lines Tax Director, Supervisors and peers with finding and interpreting state regulations pertaining to surplus lines tax filings, as required.
- Support the Surplus Lines Tax Manager in fulfillment of ad hoc requests, as needed.
- Comply with all Surplus Lines Department and overall Company defined policies and procedures.
- Independently investigate, research, and resolve issues that may arise during the filing, reconciliation or payment processes as they relate to their assigned duties.
Work Experience and Education:
- Associate’s degree (AA) from two-year college or technical school and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Superior performance as surplus lines coordinator for at least 3 years.
- Knowledge of filing requirements and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume position, deliver timely and accurate work products with customer service focus and respond with sense of urgency as required.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong teamwork orientation, willingness to help larger team meet goals and responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of commercial property/casualty coverage and/or insurance licensing preferred but not required.

The target hourly rate range for this position is $22.35 - $27.00 per hour.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
