Under minimal direction, the Agile Scrum Master Consultant provides consulting and project support for self-organized teams using the Agile Scrum methodology to deliver IT and business solutions for CNA. The Scrum master consultant will also be responsible for organizing and facilitating project planning, daily scrum, sprint reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning as needed by the scrum teams. They are a recognized subject matter expert on Agile processes, tools, best practices, existing standards with hands-on exposure to multiple versions of Agile (Scrum, Kanban, XP).
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Serve, lead, coach, and support multiple Agile Scrum Teams on complex initiatives, with teams consisting of internal and external (onshore and offshore) as well as business and technical resources in the delivery of IT and business products and solutions.
- Responsible for product delivery.
- Develop business rules and maintain integrations between Guidewire Policy center and third party systems using SOAP, RESTful web services, Java, Gosu and SQL.
- Conduct requirement gathering sessions to translate business needs into technical specifications and support end-to-end testing of Policy Center solutions including policy issuance and renewal process.
- Apply SAFe principles to enhance project management and delivery process, ensuring alignment with Agile practices and organizational goals.
- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies and agile practices (such as daily standups, sprint review meetings, retrospective meetings, crossteam coordination, and etc.), alongside the product owner, ensuring that Scrum Teams adhere to the Scrum values of courage, focus, commitment, respect and openness in delivering IT solutions.
- Identify and resolve delivery impediments to optimize delivery flow.
- Appropriately lead resolution of complex impediments and escalate impediments that cannot be resolved to senior leadership.
- Guide team members in achieving maturity in Agile principles and Scrum practices, developing a proven track record of driving consistent velocity and velocity increases on mature teams.
- Proactively monitor and assess team health and project needs.
- Serve as recognized Agile subject matter expert, thought leader, and mentor with extensive knowledge of Agile processes, tools, best practices, and standards.
- Provide guidance to more junior Scrum Masters on Agile.
- Review and provide feedback on potential new tools/processes in the Agile space and is a visible champion for adopting them once ratified.
- Contribute to maturing Agile at CNA through proactively bringing suggestions to COE/COPs.
- Facilitate and manage conflict resolution within the team and key stakeholders.
- Escalate more serious conflicts to leadership.
- Promote practices that ensure delivery of quality products, ensuring that transparency is maintained around delivery progress, quality and schedule.

Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT or related and 5 (five) years of experience as a Scrum master, software developer, consultant or related
Must have some work experience with each of the following:

In District of Columbia,California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
