About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Underwriting Data team as we continue to evolve how we use data to drive decisions, improve performance, and shape strategy across the business.
Sitting at the heart of our insight function, this role plays a key part in transforming complex datasets into trusted, business-ready resources that our colleagues across Underwriting & Pricing – and the wider organisation – can rely on to make informed, data-led decisions. You’ll be helping to structure and connect the dots between data sources, bringing together a clearer picture of what’s happening across our books of business, service teams, and customer outcomes.
The team works collaboratively across NFU Mutual, combining deep underwriting knowledge with smart use of data. From BAU reporting to strategic analysis and new data-led initiatives, no two days are the same. Whether it's supporting senior stakeholders with performance insight, helping underwriters grow their data confidence, or contributing to key strategic projects, this role has real breadth.
We're proud of our team’s supportive culture and commitment to doing things the right way. That means working closely with the Data Centre of Excellence, IT, and other key partners to ensure everything we deliver is high-quality, well-governed, and aligned to our wider data strategy.
If you’re looking to be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team that’s making a real difference to underwriting performance and decision-making at NFU Mutual, this could be just the role for you.
About you
You’re someone who enjoys making sense of complex data and turning it into something meaningful. You’re confident navigating datasets, telling the story behind the numbers, and helping others see the bigger picture. Whether it’s building a dashboard, engaging stakeholders, or supporting underwriters to grow their data confidence, you bring curiosity, clarity, and a collaborative approach to everything you do.
You’ll bring the following skills and experience:
- SQL and Power BI - You’ll be confident working with SQL to access and manipulate data, and experienced using Power BI to create meaningful, visually engaging reports that support performance insight and self-serve capability.
- Data storytelling, insight and visualisation - You’ll know how to interpret data and bring it to life – clearly communicating insight to a variety of audiences and supporting decision-making through compelling narrative and visuals.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills - You’ll have experience working with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams, able to build relationships, influence thinking, and align insight activity to business needs.
- Critical thinking and prioritisation- With lots of moving parts, you’ll be confident evaluating requests, connecting the dots across datasets, and prioritising your time to focus on the work that will drive the most value.
- Commercial and analytical awareness - A good understanding of financial analysis (including P&L) is highly beneficial – helping you spot trends, challenge assumptions, and understand what sits behind underwriting and business performance. Experience in insurance is a bonus, but strong domain knowledge in a commercial or regulated environment is just as valuable.
- Collaborative mindset and coaching approach - You’ll be proactive in sharing knowledge, spotting opportunities to improve how we work, and supporting others to grow their data literacy – especially underwriters – as part of our longer-term data strategy.
At NFU Mutual, we support an inclusive workplace and value all the differences that make us unique. We celebrate the creativity and innovation that comes from diverse perspectives and experiences and share a common vision of doing the right thing for our customers and employees.
We recognise that some candidates may experience barriers during the recruitment process. So, we encourage candidates to discuss any adjustments or accommodations they need to be the best they can be throughout our recruitment process.
We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer, a Race at Work and Women in Finance Charter signatory and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity, gender, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
