We are seeking a Senior Manager, Finance Operations to lead and optimize our financial operations, including billing, collections, trust management, accounts payable, reimbursements and other firm administration. Reporting to the CFO/COO, this role has a significant impact on financial efficiency and revenue cycle management. This position works closely with Regional Managing Partners, finance teams, and operational leadership to ensure seamless financial operations. The role covers national financial processes and will directly oversee a growing team of around 30 colleagues within its function.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Regional Managing Partners on people management, capacity planning, training and development of accounting colleagues, and operational processes.
- Oversee billing and collections processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency.
- Manage trust accounting and compliance, ensuring adherence to all regulatory standards.
- Lead reimbursement and disbursement processes, optimizing cash flow and operational efficiency.
- Drive efficiencies in accounts payable disbursements, review and approve cheques/payments, and ensure seamless vendor payments including credit card reconciliations.
- Partner with legal and administrative teams to enhance financial workflow and improve service delivery.
- Implement process improvements and technology solutions to modernize financial operations. Play a leadership role in development of finance information systems (e.g., related to automating and supporting workflows and processes.)
- Ensure accounting policies and procedures are up-to-date, scalable, and aligned with business needs and regulations.
- Lead decision-making initiatives related to operational finance, cost management, and revenue and pricing optimization.
- Undertake additional responsibilities and projects within the scope of the role as required by the business to support evolving priorities and operational needs.
- Ad hoc projects assigned by the CFO or CMP.
- Develop and enhance financial standard operating procedures (SOPs) to drive efficiency and best practices
What will help you succeed in this role?
- A CPA or equivalent qualification
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting or finance operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing billing, collections, trust accounting, accounts payable, disbursements, and pricing.
- Preference will be given to candidates who are bilingual in English and French, with the ability to communicate effectively in both languages.
- Proven track record in building and leading high-performing, high production, accounting teams and driving strategic financial initiatives. Preference given to candidates that have scaled up teams in high growth environments.
- Strong understanding of trust accounting, revenue cycle management, and reimbursement processes across Canada.
- Experience developing and implementing financial policies, controls, and operational efficiencies at a strategic level.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to partner cross functionally and innovate processes across all functions.
- Proficiency in financial management systems (e.g., legal industry accounting systems).
- Experience in a law firm or professional services environment, understanding industry specific financial nuances.
