The Manager, Claims Operations is a strategic thinker who understands the big picture and is capable of articulating organizational goals and objectives; accountable and empowered to take necessary actions to further the initiatives of the Markel enterprise. The Manager, Claims Operations is responsible for oversight of Claim Operations Supervisors, Lead Claims Technicians, Claims Analysts, and Claim Technicians; performance management and salary management of direct reports. The Manager is a coach and mentor; provides technical input to Claim Operations associates, as necessary. The Manager, Claims Operations is a critical thinker, engages in independent analysis, and may make recommendations to the Director, Claims Operations on systems and workflow. The Outcome Statements will be measured through Director observations, external and internal feedback, and Audits.
Responsibilities:
Complete all claims communication responsively and timely to maintain productive flow of information and promote efficient processes. Complete and distribute service reports and notices timely; provide accurate and meaningful information to all interested parties to fulfill internal and external obligations.
Owns relationship with Strategic Partner. Explore ways to improve efficiencies and minimize processing and workflow issues. Employ technical skills for effective and timely completion of assigned tasks to assure efficient claim support.
Conduct all contacts in a timely, appropriate, and substantive manner; exchange information about the claims services process and set expectations to establish and maintain superior relationships and elevate partner and customer service.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal and external customers, gather, analyze, and distribute information to satisfy needs of business partners.
Manage the unit’s performance to ensure compliance with Claims Service Standards.
Organize and participate in conferences in collaboration with claims staff where the issues impact the claims process efficiencies and claims staff’s effectiveness.
Provide advice and service in area of expertise so as to influence decisions and actions of others; or exchange information, including business requirements, within own department or across organization so as to achieve functional or business objectives.
Provide appropriate oversight to Strategic Partner and technicians in management of claim support activities according to established Claims Service Standards to achieve optimal results.
Provide leadership and direction to direct reports as related to the achievement of functional goals and objectives. Execute functional strategies in alignment with organizational strategies.
Provide leadership and mentorship to claims operations unit including appropriate task assignments, effective training and development, appropriate performance management, adherence to department policies and procedures, and ensure that the unit resources are efficiently utilized to achieve operational objectives.
Provide meaningful participation in claim team meetings, claims strategy meetings, and instances where claims services input is required to facilitate claims solutions for prospective accounts.
Requirements:
Associate degree or bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum of two years operations experience for related team or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of insurance industry or claims handling preferred
Experience managing a team or comparable experience strong desire for continuous improvement
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent organization and time management skills
Experience working in a paperless environment
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)

Pay information:
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The salary for the position is $110K - $125K with a 30% bonus potential.
