Manages a team of underwriting auditors for Specialty and Commercial underwriting business units. Responsible for identifying areas of operational or training improvement in risk appetite, workflow, pricing, coverage, underwriting authority and quality assurance. Responsible for driving strategic direction of staff, delivering audit reports per annual schedule and priority of work.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
1. Leads and directs the work activities and has full management responsibilities for the Commercial and Specialty UW Audit Teams.
2. Drives strategic direction given by leadership and prioritizes and executes all audit-related projects bringing them to successful and timely conclusion, ensuring compliance with governance/control processes, both internal and external.
3. Provides leadership to the two dedicated teams of auditors to ensure completion of work and staff development. Empowers the team to identify and recommend areas for improvement in the end-to-end audit process.
4. Collaborates with Business Unit as well as Global Product Leaders to drive quality assurance in all aspects of underwriting.
5. Partners with Underwriting Shared Services on workflow improvements and operational efficiency initiatives needed to address audit trends and findings.
6. Plans and establishes the Specialty and Commercial audit schedules ensuring availability of participants and audit scope within the agreed upon timelines.
7. Reviews final audit reports and other deliverables to ensure quality and scope of the audit is met and performed in accordance with the Company’s Audit procedures.
8. Conducts the appropriate level of oversight to ensure the audit teams’ work is being performed correctly and efficiently. Provides feedback to the teams as needed and ensures performance management, coaching and development occurs consistently.
9. Supports audit leaders in their efforts to obtain responses and necessary actions from the Business Unit leaders for all audit findings.
10. Lends expertise, as well as the expertise of the audit team members, to company-wide directives such as evaluating underwriting guidelines/strategies, new products or other underwriting driven initiatives as needed.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
1. Expert technical knowledge of underwriting theories and practices within the insurance field.
2. Leadership and management skills, demonstrating the ability to influence, integrity and professionalism.
3. Effectively interact and communicate with all levels of the organization as well as external partners
4. Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
5. Strong attention to detail.
6. Ability to travel determined by business need.
7. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
8. Experience with TeamThink/Athenium preferred
Education & Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
2. Typically a minimum of 10 years of related work experience in underwriting.
3. Prior Underwriting Audit leadership experience preferred.
4. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) preferred.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia,California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $152,000 to $242,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
