Individual Contributor responsible for certain lines of business for underwriting business units. Responsible for identifying areas of operational or training improvement in risk appetite, workflow, pricing, coverage, underwriting authority and quality assurance.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Works with Senior Management to execute any audit-related projects and brings to successful and timely conclusion, ensuring compliance with governance/control processes, both internal and external.
Drives quality assurance in all aspects of underwriting by collaborating with business unit leaders
Collaborates with Underwriting Services on workflow improvements and operational efficiency initiatives.
Supports the achievement of continued profitability, growth and/or operational efficiencies for a product line through assessment of competitor product offerings, market appetite and emerging exposures/issues.
Reviews files, analyzing quality and selection, quoting, pricing, and insurance of new and renewal business to determine if it is in accordance with Company’s current underwriting guidelines.
Works with affected underwriting operations to develop responses and necessary actions responsive to audit findings.
Creates and lead intercompany audit teams auditing underwriting operations against audit criteria.
Provides direction into corporate underwriting guidelines, philosophies and general directive.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. In-depth technical knowledge of underwriting theories and practices within the insurance field.
2. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment.
3. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
5. Strong attention to detail.
6. Ability to travel determined by business need.
7. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations preferred.
2. Typically a minimum ten years underwriting experience with proven track record of results.
3. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) preferred.

In District of Columbia,California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $97,000 to $189,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
