Job Opportunity
BHSI is seeking a Product Owner to join our growing Small Commercial Technology Team. This role is central to building the modern platform that will power BHSI’s expansion into the Small Commercial insurance market. At the core of this platform is a new Policy Administration System, with the broader ecosystem designed to evolve iteratively based on market needs and product roadmaps.
This role requires someone who not only understands product development and Agile delivery, but also brings a strong background in commercial insurance — including how underwriting, policy servicing, and product strategy intersect. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working within or alongside business teams in the insurance space, and will bring that domain knowledge to help shape a scalable, compliant, and efficient platform.
As Product Owner, you’ll help lead the definition, delivery, and refinement of the platform, working across business and technology to translate strategy into clear execution. You will partner with stakeholders across Underwriting, Operations, Claims, Product, Actuarial, Legal, and Distribution to ensure solutions are aligned with business goals and built for long-term scale.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who thrives in a build-first environment, excels at simplifying complexity, and is energized by shaping how a team works—not just what it builds.
Duties & Responsibilities
- In partnership with Product Manager, own the product vision and roadmap for critical platform capabilities in partnership with Underwriting, Technology, and other business stakeholders.
- Manage and refine the product backlog, ensuring stories are clear, prioritized, and aligned to business value, technical feasibility, and platform vision.
- Act as the voice of the customer and translate business processes, regulatory needs, and strategic initiatives into actionable stories and workflows.
- Collaborate daily with engineering, QA, architecture, and other cross-functional partners to clarify requirements, remove roadblocks, and support high-quality delivery.
- Contribute to the evolution of our Agile practices as the team matures—participating in sprint planning, retrospectives, demos, and quarterly planning activities.
- Drive alignment with broader business goals, participating in planning across platform initiatives and coordinating with other product owners where appropriate.
- Define and track KPIs and success metrics to assess product health, identify areas for improvement, and drive continuous delivery of value.
- Champion user experience and system simplicity in all decision-making, ensuring the platform is built with sustainability and operational effectiveness in mind.
- Lead post-launch support, including defect triage, user feedback analysis, and the continuous enhancement of platform features.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and data standards, and proactively surface risks or dependencies impacting delivery.
