This position will be responsible for the investigation of complex suspect insurance claims and other matters pertaining to fraud, waste, and abuse. The position will require the ability to work with other Markel Associates and interact with regulators and law enforcement agencies in bringing matters to a logical conclusion.
Job Description
Conduct an investigation from inception to its logical conclusion (develop a plan of investigation, gather evidence and information pertaining to fraud allegation, conduct interviews, document investigative findings, prepare a report, and update referring part regarding status)
Utilize third party informational databases to gain knowledge on investigative parties, businesses, assets, criminal and civil filings, etc.
Utilize private investigators when “boots on the ground” services are needed and manage the private investigators
Document investigative findings in the SIU case management system
When appropriate, refer the investigative matter to NICB/ISO, state departments of insurance, attorney general, or law enforcement.
Establish, maintain and cultivate a network of investigative sources of information to assist with fraud investigations.
Network with various internal departments at Markel to foster good working relationships.
Provide anti-fraud training to Markel Associates, MGAs, TPA's, Producers/Brokers, etc.
Coach, mentor and train investigators and internal departments
Assist in development of new investigative protocols
Assist Director or SIU Manager with other duties as assigned
Requirements:
High school diploma with applicable experience OR bachelors degree
5+ years of experience working in a SIU at a property & casualty company
Prior investigation experience may be substituted for insurance company experience
Extensive insurance company experience in claims, underwriting, audit, compliance/legal may be substituted for insurance investigative experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Pay information:
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The salary for the position is $36.10 - $49.64 per hour with a 15% bonus potential.
