Definity’s National Subrogation Unit (NSU), established in 2010, plays a critical role in maximizing subrogation recoveries across Canada. Operating in close partnership with Property, Auto, and Casualty Claims Units, the NSU handles a high volume of subrogation files, primarily from Ontario, through both manual and automated referrals.
The NSU is a specialized team focused solely on liability and recovery, not first-party claims. Our work includes direct negotiations, arbitration, litigation, and strategic training initiatives to enhance subrogation awareness and effectiveness across the organization.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Team Leader to supervise and support a team of Subrogation Representatives. This leader will ensure operational excellence, drive recovery performance, and foster collaboration across departments.
What can you expect from this role?
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of subrogation professionals.
- Monitor performance metrics and ensure team goals align with departmental objectives.
- Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee the intake, analysis, and handling of subrogation referrals (collaborative and full file).
- Ensure timely and thorough investigations, evidence preservation, and expert engagement.
- Review and approve subrogation strategies, legal referrals, and settlement negotiations.
Strategic Collaboration
- Liaise with internal claims teams to promote subrogation awareness and best practices.
- Deliver training sessions and refreshers for new and existing staff.
- Identify and address performance gaps and process improvements.
File Management & Legal Coordination
- Guide team members in managing complex subrogation files, including litigation oversight.
- Support legal strategy development and counsel engagement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, statutes, and contractual obligations.
What you bring to this role?
- University degree, college diploma, or CIP designation.
- 7–10 years of subrogation experience, ideally with a background in Property or Casualty adjusting.
- Proven leadership experience in a claims or legal environment.
- Strong knowledge of subrogation processes, legal principles, and dispute resolution methods.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Salary range is $77,100 - $142,000
