As we evolve our corporate narrative to reflect this ambition, we’re seeking a strategic and creative Public and Media Relations Manager to help shape how our story is told.
Reporting to the AVP, Corporate Communication, you’ll lead media relations, thought leadership, and issues management, while analyzing performance to refine future focus. This role is ideal for a seasoned communications professional—preferably with financial services experience—who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about building brand reputation through compelling storytelling.
This position is based in Waterloo, ON or Toronto, ON, with a hybrid work model (three days per week in office) and occasional travel between locations for team collaboration.

What You’ll Do
- Lead media relations, engagement, and outreach to elevate the public profile of Definity and its family of brands
- Identify opportunities for brand participation in relevant conversations and amplify thought leadership
- Develop and execute innovative communication tactics aligned with strategic priorities
- Collaborate with teams throughout the business to plan and publish content
- Support crisis and issues management, including regulatory and reputational matters
- Research topics and interview subject matter experts, including senior executives, to produce high-impact stories
- Analyze performance and contribute to quarterly communications dashboards
- Build and maintain strong relationships with media, influencers, and internal stakeholders
- Support executive communications and visibility initiatives
- Champion opportunities for high-performing talent and inclusive storytelling
Experience and Skills
- 8+ years of progressive communications experience, ideally in financial services or insurance
- Strategic understanding of public relations, reputation, and issues management
- Experience mitigating crisis communication scenarios
- Proven ability to simplify complex topics and craft engaging narratives
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills
- Agency management experience with an understanding of how to best balance insourcing and outsourcing
- Familiarity with media monitoring and analytics tools
- Experience leveraging generative AI to drive efficiency, scale storytelling, and support innovation in communications is a strong asset
- Experience working with French-language media or colleagues in Quebec, and bilingualism (English/French) is a strong asset
Education
- University degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or Business
- Post-graduate certification in a related discipline is an asset
Salary Range: $77,100 - $142,000
