Position Summary
The Director of Underwriting is responsible for leading the policy administration function for a crop insurance entity, including building a team of underwriters and assistants to ensure appropriately administer policies bound. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, excellent communication skills, strong leadership skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
What will your job entail?
Job Responsibilities:
• Oversee the policy administration function for an entity servicing federal crop insurance and private crop insurance programs
• Build and lead a team of policy administration personnel with expertise in various crops, insurance plans and commodity types charged with reviewing policy information provided by agents and policyholders
• Ensure underwriting process follows provisions of standard reinsurance agreement and supplemental guidance on underwriting in the federal crop insurance program
• Ensure adequate internal control policies and procedures over the underwriting process
• Lead underwriting documentation function, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all information and a complete documentation trail exists
• Aid compliance functions such as policy review and error tracking as needed
• Support training function by developing and potentially delivering training curriculum
• Liase with other departments within the company, such as claims, compliance and accounting to ensure a coordinated approach to policy administration
• Stay up to date with changes in crop insurance regulations and industry best practices, participating in ongoing professional development activities
• Other projects and duties as assigned
Work Experience and Education:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• 10+ years of progressive experience working with crop insurance policy administration
• 5+ years of experience supervising crop insurance underwriting and policy administration procedures

The target salary range for this position is $116,700.00 - $130,000.00 annually.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
