Leads and direct the ceded reinsurance premium and claims teams by driving operational excellence. This role partners with external markets in a strategic way for both premium payment and claims issues including resolution of challenging inquiries and collection of claims. The position works closely with other business units within the company, including Corporate Accounting, Claims, Underwriting, and Business Solutions.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Directs the work activities and has full management responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate staff in accordance with corporate strategic direction and business objectives. Ensures timely and accurate handling of premium payments each facultative certificate or endorsement, collaborate with other areas as needed for accruals or other financial requirements. Provides management direction for ceded reinsurance claims collection and settlements at all levels and works closely with senior management to deliver business results.
Develops and implements operating plans for enhancing the business and meeting strategic objectives. Develops and implements policies and procedures within Ceded Re Claims. Directs project teams and is responsible for outcomes attributable to special projects and presentations within his/her managerial organization. Identifies training and performance issues and works with staff to increase performance levels and resolve outstanding issues.
Leads efforts with direct claims to ensure timely identification of potential recoverables and timely and accurate billing. Communicates with reinsurers and intermediaries to facilitate the collection process and resolve the most complex issues.
May perform additional duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationship:
AVP or above.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
1. Ability to effectively lead and motivate reinsurance staff.
2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
3. Strong negotiating skills required to negotiate settlements that meet both quantitative and good business reasons for settlement.
4. Strong technical knowledge of reinsurance claims processing and resolution and knowledge of insurance and claims principles, practices and procedures.
5. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
6. Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
7. Ability to exercise independent judgement and effectively resolve ceded reinsurance issues.
8. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree or equivalent experience. Typically a minimum of 10 years of claims, accounting or reinsurance experience. Applicable professional designations, or related coursework preferred.

In District of Columbia,California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $97,000 to $189,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
