Position Summary
The Structural Engineer will support our underwriting team of a national Managing General Underwriter (MGU) specializing in catastrophic property risks. This role will provide technical expertise to support underwriting decisions for complex property schedules exposed to high-hazard perils including Windstorm, Earthquake, Flood, and Wildfire.
The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of building structural systems and foundations, and the ability to interpret and apply engineering principles to assess risk. This individual will collaborate closely with underwriters to evaluate structural vulnerabilities and guide the application of RMS secondary modifiers for Earthquake and Windstorm.
What will your job entail?
Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana (Hybrid or Remote Eligible)
Key Responsibilities:
Review property schedules and individual location data for structural integrity and hazard exposure.
Provide expert guidance on building construction types, foundation systems, roof structures, and retrofitting measures.
Advise underwriters on the application of RMS Earthquake and Windstorm secondary modifiers.
Conduct engineering assessments of high-value or high-risk properties.
Develop structural risk profiles and contribute to underwriting guidelines.
Liaise with brokers and clients to clarify structural details and mitigation efforts.
Stay current on building codes, hazard mitigation strategies, and structural engineering best practices.
Support catastrophe modeling and risk scoring efforts with engineering input.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
2+ years of experience in structural engineering, preferably with exposure to catastrophe risk or insurance.
Familiarity with RMS modeling platforms and secondary modifier logic.
Strong analytical and communication skills.
Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS).
Working knowledge of state-level building code requirements, especially in high-hazard regions such as coastal Louisiana, California, and Florida.
Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
Experience working with KML/KMZ files for project visualization in Google Earth or GIS tools.

The target salary range for this position is $78,050.00 - $85,000.00 annually.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
