Our ambition is become market leader in the Renewable Energy Insurance Sector.
To help us develop this new class of business, we have created an exciting opportunity for a Senior Claims Handler, Energy with relevant experience in the Insurance market, to handle first party Energy claims in Spain, later expanding into the DACH region.
Reporting into the Head of Claims Spain, you will be responsible for handling and driving claims forward in a proactive manner.

As a Senior Claims Handler at Markel, you are not just the person who manages files - you are the face of the company and a key link between the technical, legal and human aspects of insurance.
This role is based in our modern Madrid office, located directly in the Torre de Cristal.
What you’ll be doing:
- Analysing and managing claims, including third party agreements (TPA) and service providers in line with our Claims Manual
- Establishing, developing, and expanding broker and customer relationship
- Reviewing coverage and coordinating with experts and solicitors to determine liability, resulting in successful resolution of each case
- Prioritising case urgency, ensuring that each claim progresses within the established deadlines
- Consolidating our footprint as a recognized insurance partner by dealing promptly and effectively with large and midsize claims, with a primary focus on Renewable Energy, later expanding into Oil, Gas and Property markets
- Working closely with our Madrid & Barcelona internal Departments: Underwriting, Sales and Finance, as well as with clients and brokers
- Championing continuous improvement and working with the team to improve end to end processes and data accuracy
- Attending regular broker and client meetings with occasional travel within Spain and Europe to represent Markel as required
Our must-haves:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Law. Business, or similar field
- Experience of handling (renewable) energy claims, or other relevant experience in insurance, including having worked previously as a claims broker, lawyer or loss adjuster.
- Ability to understand and discuss common trends in claims and analyse the portfolio to assist in profitability of the portfolio.
- Comprehensive understanding of the regional insurance market
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, delegate where necessary and make quick decisions while maintaining integrity and profitability
- Effective interpersonal skills as you collaborate with local and regional partners, as well as internal colleagues, across Spain and Europe
- Strong partnership skills for developing strategic planning to achieve team and company ambitions.
- Fluency in Spanish and English essential. Additional knowledge of other European languages an advantage
- A positive mind-set and people-oriented work ethic
