Content & PR Executive
Location: Manchester
Contract: Full time, permanent
Department: UK Marketing
Reporting to: Content Manager
About Markel:
At Markel, what we do really matters. Insurance isn’t just a product to us – it’s a promise to support people, businesses and communities when they need it most.
As a Fortune 500 company with operations across insurance, reinsurance and specialist advisory services, we operate in complex, regulated environments – but we never lose sight of our people first culture. Strong relationships, clear communication and doing the right thing sit at the heart of everything we do.
About the role:
We’re looking for a Content & PR Executive who can deliver high‑quality, externally facing content and PR activity at pace, supporting the wider marketing function and business objectives.
This is not a pure writing role. You’ll use your copywriting skills as a foundation, but your impact will come from your ability to deliver integrated content and PR activity, manage partners, and support campaigns that build Markel’s brand, reputation and visibility in the UK market.
You’ll work closely with the Content Manager, marketing colleagues, agencies and subject‑matter experts across the business, operating in a structured and regulated environment where attention to detail, judgement and delivery really matter.
What you’ll be responsible for:
Deliver external content and PR activity
Produce high‑quality, audience‑led content for external marketing and PR activity, including web, campaigns, thought leadership, press materials, social and sales collateral
Ensure all content is on‑brand, compliant and aligned to business objectives
Support content and PR execution across the business
Play a key role in delivering the editorial and PR plan, running multiple workstreams and deadlines simultaneously
Support the development and execution of externally facing campaigns that enhance brand visibility and reputation
Partner and agency collaboration
Work confidently with internal partners to identify stories, shape messages and deliver content that meets commercial and reputational goals
Brief, manage and collaborate with external agencies and suppliers, ensuring clear direction, timely delivery and high standards
Multi‑channel thinking
Adapt core narratives across channels, understanding how messaging needs to shift for different audiences, platforms and formats
Contribute content to digital and social activity that supports broader marketing objectives
Operate effectively in a regulated environment
Measure and improve
What we’re looking for:
Essential
Proven experience in a content, PR, or marketing communications role, ideally within an in‑house marketing team or agency environment
Experience delivering externally facing content or campaigns, not solely internal communications
Strong copywriting and editing skills, with the ability to write for different audiences, channels and objectives
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver at pace, with a high degree of autonomy
Experience working with multiple collaborators and navigating structured approval processes
Experience briefing or working with external agencies or suppliers
Strong organisational skills, sound judgement and attention to detail
Desirable
Experience in B2B, professional services or regulated industries
Exposure to PR activity, media relations or reputation‑led content
Marketing or communications qualification
What this role is – and isn’t:
This role is for someone who:
Is already operating as a marketing or PR executor, not just a writer
Is comfortable delivering work independently in a fast‑paced environment
Understands how content supports wider marketing and business goals
This role is not suited to:
What’s in it for you:
A great starting salary plus annual bonus & strong benefits package…
25 days paid holiday plus Bank Holidays, with the opportunity to buy / sell extra leave
Fantastic company pension scheme, private medical and dental cover, life assurance, travel insurance cover, income protection, season ticket loan as well as other great benefits on offer
There are countless opportunities to learn new skills and develop in your career, and we can provide the support needed to do just that!
