What we ask of you:
- Liaise closely with the APAC marine underwriting teams on new risk submissions and provide engineering focussed reviews on the technology being used
- Perform reviews of survey information.
- Attend site or review client risk management information to help advise clients on risk mitigation strategies.
- Enhance the APAC Marine Team profile with support on thought leadership, conference attendance and speaking as required.
- Complete ad hoc technology reviews including design, track record, natural catastrophe exposures and any related issues underwriters should be aware of.
- Complete desktop and risk surveys for projects and follow market to review and give underwriters a better idea of risk profile.
- Pro-actively target potential revenue streams for the engineering team, identifying opportunities from Markel’s existing client and pipeline base for engineering reviews. Devise business plan for these opportunities and agree budget in coordination with the Regional Marine Teams and Head of Singapore.
- Liaise closely with the claims team on larger claims, to further team understanding of loss trends and to assist in claims adjustments and negotiations with OEM’s.
- Collaborate with existing engineers at Markel to show expert client support from marine
- Work with existing engineers to develop a common reporting and risk scoring framework that will scale through the organisation.
- Assist underwriters in risk selection and understanding new technology.
What you will bring to the role:
The successful candidate will:
- Have at least 8 years of experience as a marine risk engineer, preferably with Naval Architect background within industry and/or with an insurance company.
- Have specific marine and engineering experience, with a technical grasp of current risk factors and underwriting concerns.
- Demonstrate strong report writing skills.
- Demonstrate being an active member of a team and contribute in an open environment.
