About the role:
The Product Owner acts as subject matter expert for the technology product portfolio, driving strategic analysis, design and development of features while ensuring products deliver customer value, efficiency improvements and support organizational growth strategy through comprehensive product ownership and team leadership. The role works with stakeholders to gather requirements, maintain the product backlog and support delivery of the product roadmap. The position requires collaboration with technical and non‑technical teams to ensure product changes meet business needs and align with organisational objectives. The role may require occasional out‑of‑hours work and travel.
Responsibilities Include:
- Lead end-to-end product initiatives, including user requirements gathering, market research, and data analysis to inform product strategy, evaluate development opportunities, and assess the competitive landscape to drive innovation and market differentiation.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to capture and translate business needs into detailed functional requirements. Work closely with development teams to write user stories, define acceptance criteria, groom the product backlog, and facilitate discovery workshops and requirements sessions.
- Prioritize features and enhancements based on business value, technical feasibility, and strategic alignment. Maintain and continuously refine the product backlog to ensure clear prioritization and sprint-ready user stories.
- Partner with technical business analysts to ensure accurate interpretation of business requirements for new functionality. Provide technical input on system architecture, platform upgrades, and infrastructure planning to support scalable and sustainable solutions.
- Design and implement complex automation workflows within the Decisions platform to support quoting, document generation, and policy lifecycle management. Mentor team members on technical standards, development best practices, and platform optimization techniques.
- Lead technical integration initiatives during organizational transitions to ensure system alignment and a consistent user experience. Build and scale the technology team from the ground up, including recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, training, and performance management.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to support professional development and career progression. Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions and training programs to upskill team members in emerging technologies and industry best practices.
- Oversee daily team operations, including task allocation, sprint planning, and performance tracking, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence.
- Manage core software updates, server maintenance, and system optimization to support daily operational needs. Monitor infrastructure performance and participate in external partner engagements to stay informed of industry trends and advancements.
- Collaborate with external service providers supporting platforms such as Decisions, WinBEAT, Auth0, and DataDog. Assess technical risks, licensing implications, and cost considerations related to platform upgrades and infrastructure investments.
- Drive continuous improvement and quality assurance initiatives by monitoring system performance and optimizing solutions to enhance operational efficiency. Work closely with testing teams to develop comprehensive test plans and ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Engage executive stakeholders to align product strategy with organizational objectives. Develop and execute communication plans to keep stakeholders informed, present product roadmaps to senior leadership, and lead digital transformation initiatives to modernize legacy systems.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, research new platforms for potential integration, and champion innovation initiatives to support long-term business growth.
About You:
- 3+ years in technology/product roles, ideally within the Insurance industry
- Bachelor’s Degree Business Information Systems or an equivalent IT discipline
- Certifications such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or PMI‑ACP are advantageous but not essential
- Knowledge of managing a product from concept to launch and beyond, ensuring it evolves in response to user feedback and market trends
- Proven experience with working with Decisions, Auth0, WinBEAT, and Datadog
- Practical experience with Microsoft Azure and SQL
- Working knowledge of Python, JavaScript, Java, HTML, and CSS
- Familiarity with APIs for system or workflow integrations.
- Deep knowledge of Agile methodologies including Scrum and Kanban
- Ability to align product development with the overall business goals and strategies
- Ability to communicate with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Experience writing user stories and acceptance criteria
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills suitable for assessing business and technical requirements
- Understanding of user research methods and interpreting product performance data
