Position Summary
Velocity Risk provides insurance solutions for small to mid sized businesses and middle market properties in coastal and catastrophe prone areas. We specialize in risks involving hurricanes, windstorms, and other natural disasters. Our team uses advanced modeling, strong technology, and a fast and responsive claims process to deliver high quality E&S property solutions.
What will your job entail?
Job Responsibilities
Underwriting and Risk Assessment
- Review new and renewal submissions for property risks.
- Evaluate risk quality, pricing, terms, and conditions.
- Analyze coastal and CAT exposures such as wind, storms, and hurricanes.
- Apply underwriting guidelines and rating tools accurately.
Data and Documentation
- Maintain accurate policy data throughout the policy lifecycle.
- Prepare and organize underwriting documentation, quotes, and bind orders.
- Support audits by providing complete and accurate underwriting files.
- Build and maintain simple reports on underwriting activities and performance.
Broker and Client Communication
- Communicate with brokers to gather required information.
- Answer questions about appetite, products, pricing, and guidelines.
- Provide clear and timely responses to ensure a smooth underwriting process.
- Deliver strong customer service and strengthen broker relationships.
Collaboration and Compliance
- Work with underwriting leadership, analytics, and operations teams.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting rules, regulations, and internal policies.
- Support continuous improvement in workflow and underwriting processes.
Work Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Minimum 2+ years of Property and Casualty underwriting experience (E&S or CAT‑exposed property experience preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
- Active State P&C license and/or Surplus Lines license required.
- CPCU or other industry certifications are a plus.

The target hourly rate range for this position is $25.00 - $32.44 per hour.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
