Join a versatile and high-visibility team of professionals who provide critical support to three Specialty underwriting business units (Financial Lines, Healthcare and Affinity Programs) focusing on data-driven analytics, business intelligence and AI in support of underwriting strategy. Functions of this role include building moderately complex portfolio management dashboards using BI tools (Power BI), defining AI strategy and driving AI adoption across underwriting teams, creating automated and ad-hoc reports for various stakeholders, and coordinating data & analytics initiatives for CNA Specialty Underwriting. A successful candidate will have strong analytics, communication, and project management skills, with excellent business acumen and the ability to manage competing priorities in order to ensure delivery of high-quality outputs, solutions, and data-driven recommendations.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Works with various enterprise data sources and semantic models to design moderately complex dashboards and reports using data visualization tools (Power BI and Tableau) for the purpose of quantifying the performance of the underwriting units, tracking key portfolio metrics, identifying trends, and evaluating operational needs.
Supports leadership team in defining AI strategy and facilitating AI adoption across Specialty underwriting teams (incl. Microsoft Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT), explores use-cases to leverage AI solutions to improve effectiveness and efficiency of underwriting process, and develops actionable prompts and solutions for Specialty underwriting teams.
Prepares ad-hoc and recurring reports and makes recommendations to management. Interprets data and identifies relevant analyses to determine actionable outcomes for a business area (incl. responding to data requests from management, identifying the right source of data, pulling the data query, conducting analysis and presenting results to senior management).
Facilitates execution of various data, analytics, process and systems initiatives for underwriting teams (incl. stakeholder management, tracking execution, sharing timely updates with business stakeholders, ensuring achievement of initiative goals).
Leads projects to determine and develop data-driven strategies to maximize performance and identify process improvements, involving analysis of data sets and modeling.
Acts as a technical resource and regularly identifies opportunities to leverage new IT, BI and AI solutions in support of business, analytics and reporting objectives.
Collaborates with business partners in Underwriting, Data and Analytics, Portfolio Management, IT, Finance, Actuarial, Operations, Distribution, Risk Control, Claims, Legal and Compliance.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems. Advanced Excel skills are required.
Solid knowledge of Power BI is required, knowledge of Tableau is beneficial.
Solid knowledge of AI tools and capabilities (Microsoft Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) is required.
Familiarity with insurance company IT and data infrastructure is strongly preferred.
Prior experience with P&C insurance industry is strongly preferred.
Solid knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, underwriting performance metrics, financial and economic concepts.
Solid project management skills and strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage work deliverables/projects effectively.
Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions based on data analyses and insights.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA’s internal business partners.
Ability to work independently, as well as in a team, manage time and resources to accomplish multiple tasks, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
Ability to creatively and effectively manage ambiguous and challenging problems, leading through change and taking appropriate level of risk.
Ability to leverage enterprise applications for reporting and process improvement to meet business objectives.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, Business, or related field.
Typically a minimum of seven years of related work experience

In District of Columbia,California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $97,000 to $189,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
