Position Summary
The Associate Underwriter supports Wholesale Commercial Lines Underwriters by managing the renewal and policy lifecycle for a small business wholesale book of business. This role is execution‑focused and responsible for high‑volume renewals, submission review, policy processing, and coordination with internal and external partners including brokers and carriers.
This position is ideal for candidates with prior experience as an Associate Underwriter, Underwriting Assistant, Commercial Lines CSR, or Account Manager within a wholesale, MGA/MGU, E&S, or commercial carrier‑aligned environment either on the wholesale or retail side.
Office Location: Initial training will be 5 days per week in our Phoenix office with a hybrid schedule offered post training once fully engrained in the role. Our Phoenix office is located at 5410 East High Street Suite 200 Phoenix, AZ 85054.
What will your job entail?
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a structured renewal pipeline for a wholesale commercial book, working from renewal lists weeks in advance
Process an average of 8–10 small commercial renewals per day, some completed in short-cycle timeframes
Review renewal and submission information in partnership with the Underwriter, analyzing account details, coverage structure, and risk characteristics
Coordinate quoting, binding, renewal, and policy issuance activities in a wholesale environment
Research and apply appropriate rates, coverages, endorsements, and policy forms based on underwriting guidelines
Utilize carrier portals, agency management systems (Titan), and Outlook to manage workflow and documentation
Issue endorsements, cancellations, non‑renewals, and reinstatements
Ensure underwriting files are accurate, complete, and compliant with company and regulatory guidelines
Collaborate with Wholesale Underwriters, Retail Brokers, Producers, and carrier partners
Proactively identify missing or conflicting information and follow up to resolve discrepancies
Support special projects and additional underwriting initiatives as assigned
Day‑to‑Day Role Snapshot:
Works from a renewal list prepared weeks in advance
Manages multiple renewals simultaneously in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment
Balances speed, accuracy, and compliance for small business wholesale accounts
Success Metrics:
Timely and accurate renewal processing
Ability to independently manage renewal volume post‑onboarding
Quality of underwriting documentation and guideline adherence
Responsiveness to brokers, underwriters, and internal partners
Demonstrated initiative and attention to detail
Required Qualifications:
2+ years of commercial insurance experience in either a wholesale or retail insurance environment.
Active P&C license required (surplus lines a plus)
Exposure to small commercial lines of business
Working knowledge of: Agency Management Systems, Carrier underwriting portals, Microsoft Outlook, Office and Teams
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting a wholesale, MGA/MGU, or E&S book of business
Bachelor’s degree (Business, Risk Management, or related field

The target salary range for this position is $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 annually.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
