Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to support and grow our Fire Suppression & Sprinkler Contractors program. This role focuses on underwriting, pricing, and managing risks related to the installation, service, inspection, testing, and repair of fire suppression, fire extinguisher, and sprinkler systems.
The Underwriter will partner closely with retail brokers to deliver competitive, compliant, and profitable insurance solutions while applying disciplined risk selection and effective loss prevention strategies. Fire protection systems are critical to life safety and property protection, and this program targets contractors with strong operational controls, training programs, and favorable loss experience.
What will your job entail?
Job Responsibilities:
- Underwrite new and renewal Property & Casualty business in accordance with company underwriting standards, guidelines, and delegated authority.
- Review and analyze submissions, policy forms, broker endorsement requests, and supporting documentation; request additional information as needed.
- Evaluate risks to determine whether to accept, modify, or decline accounts based on coverage needs, operations, location, usage, safety features, and loss history.
- Establish appropriate coverage limits, pricing, terms, and conditions based on underwriting guidelines and risk assessment.
- Manage an assigned portfolio of Property & Casualty accounts, ensuring profitability, retention, and consistent underwriting discipline.
- Deliver timely, accurate, and professional underwriting support for both new business and renewal accounts.
- Identify and assess exposures related to fire suppression system installation, service, repair, monitoring, and testing operations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable state regulations, carrier requirements, and internal underwriting guidelines.
- Develop premium forecasts, production plans, and portfolio insights to support business planning and performance goals.
- Maintain and strengthen broker relationships; collaborate with internal teams to manage submissions, quotes, binds, policy issuance, and renewals.
- Partner with brokers to develop customized insurance solutions within delegated authority limits.
- Identify opportunities for new business growth while maximizing retention through proactive renewal management.
- Support marketing and business development initiatives, including participation in industry events, training sessions, and seminars.
- Stay informed on market conditions, regulatory changes, emerging risks, and underwriting trends within the Property & Casualty sector and adjust strategies as needed.
Work Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline required; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of Property & Casualty underwriting experience.
Licenses & Certifications
- Must meet minimum requirements for applicable state Property & Casualty and/or Surplus Lines licenses.
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation preferred but not required.

The target salary range for this position is $104,000.00 - $130,000.00 annually.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
