Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Vice President, E&S Primary Casualty Operations Manager. The position is in our New York office reporting into the Senior Vice President, E&S Primary Casualty.
Our North America E&S Primary Casualty team brings significant expertise and deep-seated relationships with select appointed wholesale brokers. We offer meaningful in-house capacity, a consistent underwriting approach, timely and efficient turnaround, and a seasoned claims team.
Location: This position will be based out of our New York, NY or Morristown, NJ office.

What you’ll be doing:
Monitor and manage the end-to-end underwriting workflow to meet and exceed designated service level agreements and timelines established by management.
Work directly with underwriters and Central Operations to implement, manage, and improve workflow procedures, including conditional non-renewals, Broker of Record (BOR) processes, clearance, and loss run requests.
Identify and champion technology and process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and increase scalability.•Oversee the Peer Review process to ensure underwriting quality and adherence to guidelines.
•Review the CSA monthly internal audit report, identify root causes of any deficiencies, and implement corrective action plans.
Manage the premium audit process, including the oversight of all third-party vendors to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Maintain direct contact with agents to ensure compliance with contractual obligations for file documentation.
Partner with various functional areas (underwriting, IT, finance, legal) to proactively identify and resolve operational issues.
Assist the North America Credit department with overdue premiums by reviewing monthly reports and coordinating follow-up actions.
Work with the Ceded Re department to manage and streamline the facultative reporting process.
Oversee loss control and inspection management, ensuring timely and accurate reporting within the RCT system.
Manage data governance and integrity between the HX and PAS (GWPC) systems.
Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the underwriting support function.
Analyze operational data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for strategic improvement.
Team Leadership & Development:
Hire, train, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of underwriting support staff.
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of administrative functions that support the underwriting unit.
Develop and maintain comprehensive procedure manuals to be used for underwriting support training and ongoing reference.
Establish clear performance goals, provide regular feedback, and provide backup support to the team as necessary to ensure business continuity
Qualifications & Competencies:
•A minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in an Underwriting or Underwriting Support/Operations function within the P&C insurance industry. Proven experience in a leadership or management capacity is required.
•Strong proficiency in creating and preparing documents and presentations using Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat.
•Experience with policy administration systems (e.g., Guidewire/GWPC), workflow management tools, and reporting software.
•Demonstrated ability to hire, train, and develop a team of professionals.
•Strong ability to analyze complex processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement effective solutions.
•Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively. Experience in event/meeting planning is a plus.
•Superior ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
•Ability to think beyond day-to-day activities and contribute to the long-term strategic goals of the underwriting department.
Salary Range: $155.000 - $235,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
