The Opportunity
What To Expect
The legal assistant will be part of the Definity legal department and will be responsible for all assistant duties of the accident benefits area. The successful candidate will work under the direction and guidance of approximately 2 lawyers and will assist with tasks as assigned, including the following:
- Be responsible for the ongoing administration/organization of files
- Draft correspondence and serve/file LAT documents
- Schedule examinations under oath, meetings, case conferences, LAT hearings, etc
- Calendar management and practice supervision
- Assist with hearing preparation such as witness/expert notice letters and scheduling of preparation meetings
- Provide input into the procedures and best practices
- Work within a paperless environment
- Perform other duties as required of a legal assistant
What You Bring
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant as part of a team practicing accident benefits in Ontario
- Knowledge of License Appeal Tribunal procedures and Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule
- Demonstrated proficiency with Outlook and all MS Office applications
- Excellent document management skills with ability to learn and utilize our various software systems such as TeamConnect and ACL
- Priority and loss transfer experience an asset
- High degree of personal ethics, integrity and responsibility with an ability to deal with sensitive issues and safeguard privileged and confidential information
- Great attention to detail with proof reading skills
- Ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple, yet sometimes conflicting priorities

- Team player, adaptable to a changing environment
Salary Range: $45,000 - $82,100
High degree of proficiency with English required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.
