Our business, your impact, our opportunity:
As the Regional Head of Property Facultative for a Region, you will lead the Region in the development, core client management, and inform the overall strategic business plan (capacity, retrocessional planning, underwriting appetite, business planning for growth and renewal opportunities) for the US Property Facultative business. You will build and manage relationships through direct opportunities and brokers in the Region, leveraging strategic thinking to deliver a strong pipeline of opportunities (individual risk and automatics) that supports profitable growth in SompoRe’s U.S. Property Facultative business. You will manage underwriters within your authority level and established guidelines while partnering across functions to deliver strong performance. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about delivering results through collaboration, strategic thinking, and exceptional client service.
What you’ll be doing:
Strategic Underwriting & Portfolio Management:
o Develop and nurture client relationships to drive organic premium growth and underwrite complex accounts with a focus on profitable outcomes.
o Achieve financial objectives for growth and profitability within the Property Facultative portfolio.
o Perform and oversee comprehensive risk analyses, including exposure evaluation, aggregation, scenario testing, and profitability assessments using internal models and market data.
Leadership & Collaboration:
o Assist the SVP and Head of Property Facultative in retrocessional planning and strategy development.
o Provide mentorship and guidance to team members through direct and matrix leadership, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
o Partner with Claims, Actuarial, Cat/Exposure Management, Finance, and Operations teams to ensure optimal underwriting results and portfolio health.
Market Engagement & Representation:
o Build and maintain strong relationships to highlight SompoRe’s capabilities in underwriting, market trends, audits, and claims.
o Represent SompoRe at industry conferences, client on-site visits, and other professional engagements to strengthen brand presence and market influence.
Policy & Process Development:
o Support annual updates to Property Facultative guidelines to align with retrocessional renewal terms and market developments.
o Identify control gaps through internal and external audits, driving remediation actions to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
Special Projects:
o Lead and contribute to special projects, leveraging expertise to deliver impactful results that align with organizational goals.
What you’ll bring:
- Minimum of 10 to 12 years of experience in Property Facultative underwriting, with a strong background in direct and broker-led business.
- Proven managerial experience, including leading teams and driving performance outcomes.
- Deep knowledge of individual risk and automatics, retrocessional planning, and relevant laws and terms associated with underwriting coverages.
- ARe and/or CPCU preferred.
- Exceptional analytical abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to perform detailed risk assessments and scenario testing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software tools.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to effectively engage with clients and stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and professional manner.
- Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding client service with a professional and solutions-oriented approach.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
- Track record of contributing to underwriting profitability and driving business success.
Salary Range: $200,000 – $330,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
