Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Underwriter to join our team, specializing in package policies within the Property and Casualty (P&C) middle market space. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating, underwriting, and managing new and renewal business for a portfolio of commercial clients. This role requires a deep understanding of risk assessment, policy coverage, and market trends in the Canadian insurance landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
•Underwrite and manage package policy submissions for middle-market property and casualty clients, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and company objectives.
•Evaluate client risk exposures, review property and liability coverages, and assess the overall risk profile of commercial accounts.
•Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, agents, and clients to ensure the delivery of high-quality insurance solutions and exceptional customer service.
•Analyze financial data, loss history, and risk characteristics to determine appropriate pricing and terms for policies.
•Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., claims, risk management, and legal) to provide comprehensive insurance solutions and resolve any client or policy-related issues.
•Review and negotiate policy terms, conditions, and endorsements in line with underwriting authority.
•Monitor and manage a portfolio of accounts, including assessing renewals, endorsements, and policy adjustments.
•Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in the property and casualty market.
•Provide support and guidance to junior underwriters and assist in the development of underwriting strategies.
•Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies while maintaining a high level of professionalism in all underwriting practices.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
•A minimum of 3-5 years of underwriting experience in the Property and Casualty insurance market, with a focus on middle-market package policies.
•Strong understanding of insurance products, risk assessment, pricing strategies, and policy language.
•Knowledge of Canadian insurance regulations and market conditions.
•Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues.
•Ability to work independently and make sound underwriting decisions within established guidelines.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and underwriting software (e.g., PolicyCenter, Guidewire, etc.).
•Professional designation (CIP, FCIP, etc.) is an asset.
