Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Underwriter to join our Inland Marine team. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of inland marine risks, ensuring profitability and growth in line with Starr Insurance's strategic objectives. This role requires a deep understanding of inland marine insurance products, strong analytical skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, select, and underwrite new and renewal inland marine risks in accordance with company guidelines and underwriting authority.
- Analyze risk exposures, loss history, and other relevant information to determine appropriate coverage, terms, and pricing.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients to drive business growth and retention.
- Collaborate with other underwriters, claims professionals, and risk control specialists to ensure comprehensive risk assessment and management.
- Monitor market trends, industry developments, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and threats.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Prepare and present underwriting reports, proposals, and recommendations to senior management.
- Participate in underwriting audits, reviews, and other quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of underwriting strategies, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in inland marine insurance.
- Strong knowledge of inland marine insurance products, coverages, and market conditions.
- Proven track record of underwriting profitable business and achieving growth targets.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or AU are preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
