Underwriting Assistant – Public Entity
Summary
Assist in the production, marketing, and maintenance of new and renewal business by providing administrative support that is timely, efficient, and representative of the high standards set forth by the team. This support will include preparing proposals, binders and invoices, researching and solving accounting problems, handling agent inquiries, processing policies and endorsements, and following up on outstanding information, etc. This person will be motivated to learn the job, have a customer-focused attitude, and be able to function in a fast-paced environment.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Review, analyze, and process insurance documents such as applications, claims, policies, endorsements, and invoices
- Assess risk factors to determine eligibility for coverage
- Confirm all underwriting information is provided; request additional materials as needed to quote (e.g., loss runs, applications, financial statements)
- Enter all information in AmLINK and upload documents for internal accounting team
- Input policy data, calculate premiums and develop policy quotes based on risk evaluation using our in-house portal
- Respond to inquiries from agents, underwriters and clients regarding policy terms, conditions, and coverage with guidance from the Underwriter
- Update internal databases with changes in policy information
- Be able to Interact/develop relationships with clients, agents, and Underwriters
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate underwriting services
- Respond quickly to policy requests from markets and agents
- Be able to offer strong decision-making skills, through thoughtful problem-solving and clear communication with team members, both written and verbal
- Keep organized and detailed underwriting files
- Manage several tasks for the demands of multiple accounts/programs with a sense of urgency. Consistently meeting deadlines and prioritizing assignments under the direction of the Underwriter
Knowledge & Experience - 2-3 years of insurance experience, or a B.A. in insurance or risk management
- Full understanding and application of concepts, practices and procedures related to insurance
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in Excel
- Work is performed under immediate to general supervision, following well-defined instructions, policies, and procedures
