The Manager, Reinsurance Accounting guides a team of accountants and manages the compilation and filing of GAAP/Statutory reports for Arch MI and PMI insurance entities. They ensure compliance with prescribed due dates, respond to reporting inquiries from regulatory authorities and auditors, and contribute to the development of internal accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance. The incumbent establishes and implements operational targets for the team and operates autonomously under defined guidelines and contractual/regulatory requirements.
- Manages the timely preparation and completion of monthly and GAAP/Statutory financial statements and cession statements with all required internal and external parties, in collaboration with the AVP of Reinsurance Accounting and direct reports.
- Oversees compilation and submission of reinsurance cession statements as well as GAAP and Statutory reports, regulatory filings, and audits. Coordinates and tracks deliverables and ensures compliance with prescribed due dates.
- Addresses and responds to reporting and compliance issues/inquiries from regulatory authorities and auditors.
- Manages the financial audits through effective coordination and communication with auditors and management, ensuring results are appropriately reported and communicated.
- Ensures appropriate internal controls are in place over the financial reporting of reinsurance information. Conducts periodic reviews to update Finance and Legal senior management on accounting matters to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
- Contributes to the development and maintenance of internal accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Manages the monthly reinsurance account reconciliation process to ensure the accuracy of the general ledger.
- Stays current on all applicable GAAP accounting principles, procedures, practices, and regulatory rules.
- Manages team to accomplish objectives through effective recruitment & selection, training & development, performance management and rewards & recognition.
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of GAAP, statutory accounting principles and practices (i.e. SSAP), and insurance industry requirements (e.g. NAIC and state regulations). In-depth understanding of financial reporting and internal control processes. Good analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent people management skills to lead team members to accomplish results. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Process and results oriented. Proficient with general ledger applications (e.g. PeopleSoft), statutory reporting software, Word, and Excel.
Education & Experience:
Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a Bachelors Degree in Finance/Accounting. CPA designation required, and 5+ years of related experience, with 2-3 years financial reporting experience.
