You will deliver planned results with respect to profitability and growth across the Risk Managed Engineered Property portfolio within a disciplined proactive Underwriting culture. This position is suitable for an enthusiastic team player that will complement our strong underwriting team.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze and Underwrite Engineered Property Risks, Equipment Breakdown, Property and Project Construction risks, based upon engineering reports, Broker submissions, Underwriter guidelines; ensuring the customer needs are fulfilled while building a profitable book of business;
- Reviews insurance submissions to determine if the risk is within strategy and an acceptable risk;
- Understands pricing components and rating methodology, the use of the predictive modeling tools as well as all appropriate underwriting tools;
- Effectively manage an existing book of business whilst developing new business, ensuring continuous profitability;
- Demonstrates technical underwriting skills through account reviews and written reports including detailed UW referrals for approval on underwriting proposals outside of designated authority;
- Adheres to underwriting discipline/guidelines to minimize exposure and appropriately price;
- Liaise effectively with other areas of the business, including Claims, Risk Control, Finance, Legal and Actuarial concerning the insurability of existing and prospective risks;
- Work effectively with an established Underwriting team in a fast paced paperless environment.
- Responsible for building and maintaining external relationships with Brokers and Insureds; including field visits to Broker offices and participation in Risk Control site visits;
- Keeps current on provincial/national issues, regulations and trends;
Portfolio Management
- Disciplined Approach to all aspects of the position; embracing a performance culture
- Manages portfolio to achieve gross written premium, profitability, rate, retention, product mix, new business and portfolio management goals
- Prioritizes time and resources to effectively manage and optimize broker performance
- Operates with an Enterprise perspective to identify cross sell opportunities and create growth within other lines of business and customer segments
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of CNA’s products and appetite while clearly communicating CNA’s position at the point of sale
Sales & Distribution Management
- Builds/maintains rigorous sales practices using all CNA systems including SalesForce.com and other sales tools and disciplines
- Develops producer relationships to build pipeline, agency intelligence, and drives performance to meet and exceed results
- Drives effective relationship management and customer activities to build trust, facilitate negotiation and secure commitment with the customer

Qualifications
- Post-secondary education and/or working towards a CIP designation;
- 3-5 years of Engineered Property or Large Property Underwriting experience (including Equipment Breakdown and Project Construction)
- Solid knowledge & awareness of market conditions & trends;
- Strong communication and negotiating skills;
- Positive attitude that embraces change;
- Excellent computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software;
- Proven analytical, organizational and time management skills;
- Ability to use both strategy and intuition when Underwriting risks;
- Ability to independently recognize, evaluate and properly resolve unique problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgement;
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment coupled with a performance culture
