The Legal Department within IAT Insurance Group has an immediate need for a Manager, Claims Legal Operations at our Raleigh headquarters. This is a senior role within the Department that will be responsible for optimizing the operations of the Claims Legal Department by managing and overseeing paralegals, vendor relationships, the flow of legal referrals and assignments, litigation data and analytics, legal support services, and process improvements to support the in-house legal team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Supervise a team of legal assistants and professionals to ensure the Department can continue to provide high-quality in-house legal services.
- Administrative Support: Manage a team providing administrative support to attorneys, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and preparing legal documents.
- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external communications, including coordination with other departments and business leaders.
- Process Improvement: Analyze current processes and implement improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Workflow Management: Oversee and manage the flow of Claims, Underwriting, and Corporate assignments, referrals, and cases to the in-house legal team, including coordinating with other departments and ensuring timely resolution.
- Litigation Data & Analytics: Support attorneys and other legal professionals to interpret case data, identify litigation trends, assess risks, and improve legal strategies and insights.
- Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on legal operations metrics and performance to senior management.
- Matter Management: Manage administrative support to attorneys, including matter setup and assignment, scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and handling communications.
- Vendor Management: Oversee relationships with external legal service providers utilized by the in-house legal team to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Technology Implementation: Identify and implement legal technology solutions to enhance productivity and streamline workflows.
- Other Legal Tasks: Coordinate deposition schedules for company employees. Draft written correspondence to outside parties as necessary. Other tasks may be required in order to assist all aspects of the Claim Legal Department.
Qualifications:
Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of relevant experience in legal operations or a similar role within the insurance industry.
- Strong understanding of claims processes and procedures.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in legal technology and software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with demonstrated ability to understand and interpret legal research and data.
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel (including Pivot Tables) and PowerPoint.
- Must perform work with speed and accuracy without immediate and constant supervision.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in recognizing scope of authority and protecting confidential information.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Preferred to Have:
- Management experience.
- Prior experience as legal secretary.
- Paralegal certificate.
- Experience working in an insurance company or in-house legal department.
- Experience focused on property and casualty insurance coverage defense.
