POSITION SUMMARY
The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) plays a crucial role within the Corporate Finance Group to support management’s strategic decision-making by guiding the Insurance Segment’s financial planning process. The Director role is responsible for the coordination, aggregation and accuracy of annual planning and reforecasting for the Insurance Segment, including direct preparation for the North American division. The ideal candidate brings proven management experience across both personnel and financial planning functions, is highly organized and detail-oriented, and demonstrates strong analytical, technical, problem-solving and people skills. Success in this role requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, adhere to strict deadlines, drive process improvements, and build strong cross-functional relationships across the organization.
This role can be based out of either the Jersey City, NJ or Hartford, CT office in a hybrid capacity with an onsite expectation of two to three days per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead the North American division annual planning and reforecasting processes, including budget vs actual analysis, working with various teams across the US and Canada.
- Coordinate with the International division planning team to consolidate the annual Worldwide plan, reforecasts and analysis.
- Prepare Risk-Based Capital (RBC) models and statutory forecasts for financial solvency, capital planning and stress testing activities.
- Create key performance indicators and other metrics to evaluate the profitability of the Insurance Segment, identify areas of improvement or assist in strategic decision making.
- Prepare various quarterly and YTD reports and analysis for senior executives and department heads as requested.
- Complete the submission of the North American annual plan and reforecasts to parent company for consolidation.
- Lead the design, development and implementation of new FP&A tools in collaboration with IT and Financial Systems teams.
- Support Corporate Finance department with adherence to accounting policies, SOX and internal/external audit requests and requests from other finance areas.
- Supervise and guide indirect report, ensuring their work aligns with project goals and deadlines.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Capable of handling complex structured tasks that require close attention to timing and detail, as well as unplanned projects and challenges that require effective and unique solutions, often in a compressed timeframe.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of 21st century budget software, tools and best practices.
- Ability to effectively communicate analysis and conclusions to financial information end-users, tailoring the communication to the relevant audience..
- Comfortable working across multiple financial systems and applications, with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies.
EDUCATION
- 6+ years of property and casualty insurance industry experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- MBA/Advanced degree, CPA, SEC reporting background are beneficial but not required
For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
$79,900 - $107,900/year
Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
