What is the role?
We are looking for a Group Risk Analyst to join Howden’s Group Risk Team at an exciting moment in Howden’s corporate journey. The role will be based in London and be focused predominantly on Enterprise Risk Management. The Group Risk Function includes Enterprise Risk, Internal Controls and Compliance teams, and is collectively Howden’s second line of defence, working closely with 1LOD at Group, and 1LOD and 2LOD colleagues in Howden’s Divisions.
We take a flexible approach to working however London office is the home base for this role and the team is in regularly through the week. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with management to learn the business and on tasks on a Business as Usual basis, so there is an expectation that attendance in the office will be around 2-3 days a week with some adjustment up and down depending on business circumstances to be expected.
What will you be doing?
Risk & Data Analysis: the successful candidate will need to demonstrate and utilise risk and data analysis techniques to identify trends, patterns, opportunities and potential risks, and be comfortable converting analysis into excellent risk reporting, whether supporting risk opinions or more general risk management at Howden. The candidate will need to have a strong foundation in analysis and an ability to manipulate data in a sophisticated manner. The candidate will be expected to utilise their expertise in analysing risk category information and horizon opportunities and risks. The candidate must be curious and be willing to develop their risk management knowledge, contributing to the oversight of the risk profile of the Group. The candidate will be expected to monitor industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
Risk Framework development and expertise: The candidate will contribute towards the implementation of the Group Risk Framework, working closely with senior Risk colleagues including CROs of Divisions to rollout the Framework across the Group. The candidate will be expected to develop a strong understanding of the Group’s Risk Framework to be able to challenge and support the business.
Risk reporting: The candidate will contribute analysis to Group Risk Reporting and support Howden’s Group Risk Reporting processes. The candidate will be expected to develop and build Group Risk dashboards to support risk analysis conclusions and risk reporting. They will need to contribute to any future development of risk reporting tool and work closely with our stakeholders to leverage subject matter expertise and improve risk analysis and reporting across the Group.
Stakeholder Engagement: The candidate will need to collaborate closely with stakeholders at various levels within the Group Risk Team, and the broader Group with whom we work, including senior management and other risk management teams, to exchange information, share insights, and align risk management strategies.
System use and administration: The candidate will be expected to demonstrate expertise in the administration of a GRC system, as the role will involve management and maintenance of the system including access provisions, training guidance and tools. The candidate will ideally be familiar with management and maintenance of any system change.
What are we looking for?
A risk analyst: The candidate must have gained relevant experience in risk and data analysis in financial services, preferably within the insurance industry or at an insurance brokerage firm.
Quantitative and analytical skills are essential with expertise in statistical analysis, data modelling, and risk assessment techniques across multiple entities or business units desirable.
The ideal candidate will be able to articulate an understanding of risk management theory and its practical application in a Group financial services business.
The candidate must have relatable experience in contributing to risk reporting, and a knowledge of Risk Framework application within financial services.
An excellent communicator: excellent communication skills are required, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and concisely to diverse stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a detail-oriented and curious mindset, able to evidence accuracy and precision in data analysis and reporting.
Organizational skills: the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively, meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results is important to any candidate being successful in this Group role. The candidate must be able to upwards manage effectively, and confidently independently manage assigned tasks where appropriate. someone who looks to take on responsibility in new areas as they grow their career and develop their experience.
A committed team player: we are looking for a candidate who is willing to commit to the organisation’s strategic goals and objectives, in addition to contributing to the success of the team, working closely within a team, helping the Group Risk function to achieve our vision.
Appropriately experienced: whilst qualifications in Risk Management are a benefit they are not essential to the role. What is important is that a candidate can demonstrate why their education and professional experience is well suited to the role and the attributes of the role that we are looking for. Further support for future qualifications can be provided, post probation.
