Position Summary
The Senior Underwriting Manager will manage and lead the Underwiring team. This position will lead and train underwriters and Underwriting Assistants to ensure integrity of underwriting activities and processes. You will also lead your team to work closely with Regional Sales Managers and Agents to target and identify opportunities to meet and or exceed annual sales and profit goals.
What will your job entail?
Job Responsibilities:
• Oversee daily underwriting operations supporting multiple programs with multiple products, expertise to include commercial and specialty lines.
• Direct and coordinate the activities of division underwriters to ensure consistent application of underwriting guidelines and appropriate underwriting results.
• Interact and negotiate with program carriers on individual accounts and at the program level.
• Manage employees to include meeting: revenue, underwriting performance, productivity, policy retention, new business conversion goals as well as compliance to underwriting authority guidelines, quality, general process management, training, and development.
• Track and report on underwriting trends, broker activity, carrier referrals, individual underwriting performance metrics and other valuable information that can lead to improving our revenue results.
• Develop high performing underwriting teams.
• Work closely with broader management team to develop new/enhanced ways to offer terms.
• Manage and prepare for audits and respond to findings as required.
• Produce excellent loss ratios through underwriting discipline, leading a high performing underwriting team, and a combination of novel and traditional underwriting practices.
• Continue to build out workflows, processes, vendors, etc. for new business, underwriting, renewal underwriting, and accumulation management for a rapidly scaling organization.
• Establish and maintain productive/collaborative relationships with functional partners, business units, carriers, sub-producers, and clients.
• Develop reports, spreadsheets, and data analytics.
• Participate in planning and budgeting process.
• Special projects as assigned.
Work Experience and Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Risk Management or Business Administration.
• 8+ years of experience in insurance underwriting.
• 3+ years of management experience that encourages associate development, assign responsibilities to best achieve team goals and promotes a positive working environment.
• Experience managing underwriting teams (P&C) specifically and processes with a passion for finding solutions for professionals.
Licenses & Certifications:
• State P&C and/or surplus line license is required.
• Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) a plus.

The target salary range for this position is $160,000.00 - $200,000.00 annually.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
