The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite new and renewal referral portfolio business for K&K programs. K&K is a nationally recognized, leading Managing General Underwriter (MGU) within the Sports & Entertainment industry. This role is responsible for managing results profitably, within authority levels and established guidelines. You will underwrite multi-line risks ranging from small premium accounts to nationally recognized accounts with premiums exceeding seven figures. Working closely with Senior and Executive Management, including the EUO and CUO, this position is accountable for reviewing and evaluating referrals for pricing, coverages, and loss details to ensure profitable underwriting within a portfolio arrangement. You will be responsible for assessing complex exposures with medium to high coverage and pricing limits. This includes reviewing and analyzing insurance referral submissions and related documents, such as applications, inspection reports, financial statements, loss data, MVRs, and other materials necessary to properly evaluate and classify risks relative to proposed coverage limits.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Managing K&K’s business on an overall portfolio basis.
- Reviewing and evaluating insurance referral submissions and related documents, including applications, inspection reports, financial statements, loss data, MVRs, and other relevant materials to assess risk.
- Reviewing and evaluating new and renewal referral business to recommend appropriate actions for achieving premium/rate and loss ratio objectives.
- Developing and maintaining productive relationships within assigned underwriting segments, product line management, Senior/Executive Management, and shared service functions (e.g., claims, finance, etc.).
- Underwriting and selecting new business that will contribute to underwriting profitability.
- Participating in audits and underwriting meetings as required.
- Identifying and leveraging cross-sell opportunities with other Markel divisions by promoting Markel’s products and services.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of current multi-line package underwriting experience, preferably with a background in underwriting profitable property with large schedules or related businesses.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to develop creative underwriting solutions for complex, large risks.
- Demonstrated marketing and relationship-building skills.
- Strong knowledge of coverage forms and policy language, including appropriate use of forms and exclusions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Team-oriented mindset, with the ability to thrive in a flexible and dynamic business environment.
- Travel: Up to 10% (as appropriate).
