The role:
To deliver Risk Engineering Services for customers and colleagues throughout HDI. Protect the interests of HDI Global SE, and contribute to the UK and Ireland Branches achievement of strategic growth and operational plans.
Key accountabilities:
The provision of Risk Engineering Services, including;
- Site surveys and report writing
- Risk reviews, assessments and Desk Top Surveys (Deskies)
- The possibility of some account engineering
- Management and monitoring of risk improvements
- Review ‘Project Works’
- Technical support to Underwriters and Customers.
Foster effective team work and communication amongst Risk Consulting and between the Underwriting, Management and Executive Teams and wider colleagues.

Actively participate and contribute to Risk Consulting and Branch by way of; own initiative, forums, committees or projects to improve development, effectiveness and efficiency.
Represent positively the Company at external networking events, and enhance and promote our customer proposition and capability. Enhance professional profile within the risk and insurance industry, and cultivate strong relationships with our Customers and Brokers.
To use own initiative and/or working in collaboration with others to ensure the Department and business can achieve its objectives including; training, production of reports, involvement in projects, and research to maintain a high technical knowledge base within Risk Consulting and a leading product / proposition.
Skills & experience:
- Degree qualified in an engineering discipline.
- Risk Engineering experience working across a range of occupancies. Some exposure to large industrial customers would be an advantage.
- A working knowledge of insurance and the terminologies used across construction, property and business interruption.
- A good working knowledge of internationally recognised automatic fire protection codes ideally including NFPA, FM Global and LPC standards.
- Some account engineering experience would be an advantage but this is not mandatory.
- Able to evaluate information from a variety of sources and solve problems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable with phone & face to face discussions with underwriters, customers, brokers and colleagues; confident in presentation, negotiation and networking scenarios.
- Accuracy and attention to detail. Maintain accurate, orderly and methodical paper and electronic files that should always be available for auditing and meet regulatory requirements.
- Self-motivated and able to organise own workload effectively to meet service standards.
- Deadline focused; able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Customer focused.
- Competent user of systems, including; Microsoft; Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint.
- Ability to travel as required meeting with Customers and Brokers – possibly throughout the world.
- To work from home (as a base for site visits and report writing etc..) however to work as regularly as possible from one of our offices (London, Manchester, Glasgow or Birmingham) to provide a local resource for underwriting for day to day queries and help foster good communication / relationships with the property underwriting team.
