This role performs facilities-related daily requests to ensure our associates are working in a comfortable, productive environment. This role is responsible for the upkeep and repair (when applicable) of the building’s systems and equipment, ensuring a safe and functional environment for occupants. This includes tasks like preventative maintenance, repairs, and responding to emergencies across various areas like HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance. Provide positive contact with property owners and vendor representatives to enhance Markel’s growing needs and to provide effective response to our associates. This position will also fill in and support our Facilities Associate with various clerical and office management tasks. Utilize resources efficiently to meet our tenant’s and Markel’s organizational goals and objectives..
Responsibilities
- An array of responsibilities from office work to maintenance duties.
- Monitor the building for maintenance issues, address the issues, and report to management if necessary. Check building for facilities issues (i.e. lighting, cleaning, carpet, etc.)
- Performing routine inspections and maintenance on building systems, equipment, and structures to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnosing and repairing issues with HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and other building components.
- Completing tasks such as changing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing leaks, and performing basic carpentry repairs.
- Responding to building emergencies, such as fire alarms, HVAC system failures, and security breaches.
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of supplies.
- Coordinating with property owners and external contractors for specialized repairs or services when needed.
- Ensuring all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and standards.
- Keep appraised of conference room requests and fulfill any room setups prior to meeting times. Monitor break rooms. Proactively requisition office, break room and facilities supply in order to prevent interruption to workflow.
- Respond to all facilities-related requests that are assigned through our service portal (Service Now) in a timely manner.
- Assist with department moves while ensuring minimal disruption of work. Prepare workstations for new hires.
- Clean common area white boards.
- Assist internal customers with facilities/office related items (i.e. chairs, desk keys, etc.). Confirm if a service call is warranted in order to protect our assets and avoid any disruption to the workday.
- Inventory and order supplies for break rooms.
- Provide back up to fellow associates when business needs dictate.
- Handle associate’s needs efficiently and courteously.
Education
- High school graduate/equivalent
Work Experience
- 2-5 years office or related experience

- Strong customer service skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with property owners, management, employees, and contractors.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Proficiency in areas like electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and basic carpentry.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues effectively.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving, climbing, and working in various conditions.
- Strong team player and self-starter who can work independently with little direction
