This Underwriting role is responsible for managing a sophisticated book of business, driving profitable growth, and delivering expert underwriting analysis for Real Estate Professionals and Community Associations D&O. In addition to individual account underwriting, the consultant will play a key role in program oversight—including portfolio strategy, product development, and broker engagement. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge, strategic insight, and strong relationship management skills to help expand and evolve our presence in these specialized markets.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
This role blends technical underwriting expertise with program leadership and collaborative broker engagement. Key responsibilities include:
Underwriting complex risks using diagnostic and systematic analysis; developing tailored endorsement language for unique exposures.
Reviewing referral accounts submitted by Managing General Underwriter (MGU) partners.
Determining appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis, aligned with compliance standards.
Recommending underwriting policy and pricing strategies to support portfolio goals.
Analyzing the quality, volume, and profitability of underwritten risks; preparing performance reports and collaborating with MGUs to streamline submission flow.
Supporting marketing efforts in partnership with MGUs, associations, and CNA field offices.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with MGUs and key producers to drive positive and profitable outcomes.
Staying current on regulatory developments, industry trends, and market dynamics; participating in relevant trade groups as needed.
Mentoring junior underwriters and contributing to training and development initiatives.
Utilizing CNA’s underwriting systems and tools to manage daily operations efficiently.
Engaging in special underwriting projects and delivering strategic presentations

3. Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.

7. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
8. Demonstrated leadership skills.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations preferred.
2. Typically a minimum three to five years underwriting experience, ideally in professional liability or D&O.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia,California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $54,000 to $103,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
