Position Summary
The Vice President - Property Treaty Underwriter position develops and maintains a profitable book of Property Per Risk, Proportional, and Cat Excess business by building relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the VP assists with portfolio risk management and other underwriting management as part of both day-to-day and strategic underwriting oversight.
What will your job entail?
Responsibilities:
- Reviews treaty submissions to ensure completeness and within risk appetite
- Breaks down submission data to price and develop terms and conditions to maximize profit potential in accordance with business plan and risk management controls
- Travel (including overnight) to visit clients and brokers in pursuit of creating meaningful bonds and to develop a flow of profitable opportunities
- Communicates risk appetite and negotiates terms and conditions to brokers and clients
- Guides and coaches junior members of the underwriting team
- Liaise with other resources for treaty risk assessment
- Collaborates with internal team on targeted, desirable programs
- Recognizes and creates cross-sell opportunities for other lines of business
- Participates in claims management where necessary
- Develops direct relationships with cedants
- Identifies and responds to industry trends and changes
Education/ Experience/ Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 7-12 years of Property underwriting experience of which at least 5 years of Property Treaty underwriting experience, including both Risk & Cat.
- Technologically savvy and data driven.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a highly automated, paperless environment, including specialized software packages.
- Excellent computer skills including MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to explain complex issues, receive and interpret complex and abstract information, and respond appropriately.
- The individual will be required to proactively manage their time and workload to meet tight deadlines around peak business seasons in supporting the data processing and analytics requirements of the Underwriting team and in connection with Reinsurance Operations functions.

The target salary range for this position is $220,000.00 - $275,000.00 annually.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
