AXIS is seeking a Head of Global Markets Claims to join our Claims. Reporting to the Global Chief Claims Officer, based in the US, the successful candidate will have overall responsibility for leading and managing the Global Markets Claims team across AXIS’ Irish and UK legal entities, including a Lloyd’s Managing Agency. In this role, you will work closely with the London Global Markets team and represent claims as part of the local Executive committees as well as at external associations as appropriate. At AXIS, you will have the opportunity to lead a sophisticated group of claims professionals with a variety of specialty insurance claims expertise that provide claims service for the AXIS Global Markets business. This role is critical in ensuring regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and customer-centric claims handling. The successful candidate will hold the following regulatory designations:
• Ireland: PCF-43 – Head of Claims (Central Bank of Ireland)
• UK: SMF 18 – Senior Management Function (Financial Conduct Authority / Prudential Regulation Authority)
Given these designations, the successful candidate will oversee claims governance, performance, and reporting, while maintaining high standards of integrity and accountability under the Individual Accountability Framework in Ireland and the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR) in the UK.
This successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing Claims team in an efficient and effective manner, delivering a high-quality claims results and excellent customer service.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Deliver a market leading claims service to brokers and clients, through fostering a transformation mindset supporting claims improvement and growth aligned to broader AXIS strategies and growth plans.
• Driving continuous improvement of claims target operating models, management reporting and data analysis, processes and claims service, aligning with the strategic goal of developing modern, efficient claims processes and service in collaboration with various stakeholders in the Axis functions including, Global Claims Shared Services and Data & Analytics.
• Managing within budgeted resources by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting new resource needs/costs, and properly accounting for expenses to achieve fiscal responsibility.
• Ensuring adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies, including data management and reporting requirements.
• Establishing metrics and utilizing existing performance monitoring systems and data to provide quantifiable performance tracking to ensure quality and productivity.
• Ensuring all claims are managed and reserved in accordance with the AXIS claims handling guidelines and protocols and ensuring that Lloyd’s Claims Management Principles and Minimum Standards are met and exceeded.
• Provide and present quality, timely, and concise claims reporting to the UK and Irish legal entity Board(s) and Executive Management Committees and provide reports to any other legal entity governance forum in line with the Board reporting cycle (e.g. Underwriting Committee, Conduct Committee etc).
• Working closely with Xchanging claims services (XCS), other service providers and market members to ensure a premiere claims service to clients is provided and maintained.
• Building and maintaining key relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., peers, underwriting, actuarial, ceded reinsurance, various executive management leaders).
• Building and maintaining key relationships with external stakeholders (e.g., insureds, regulators - including the FCA, PRA, CBI, Lloyd’s, Lloyds Market Association, attorneys, auditors, reinsurers, vendors, TPAs and MGA/MGUs and brokers).
• Leading a performance enhancement culture by actively improving claims data, coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback, and developing employees for broader roles and responsibilities that support professional growth and development and working collaboratively with HR Business partner support and guidance.
• Recruiting, hiring, and retaining top talent as well as developing succession plans.
KEY SKILLS & ABILITIES:
10 -15+ years of claims leadership and management experience focused on International and/or Global Markets Claims experience with commercial and/or specialty insurers, as well as:
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally and influence and collaborate at all organizational levels, both internally and externally.
• Continuous improvement mindset and proficiency with data, ability to develop management information to drive results, make decisions and drive outcomes.
• Working knowledge of the London market and claims subscription process, including the use of CLASS, ECF systems and the International Underwriting Association of London.
• Mature oral and written communication skills grounded in the ability to deal effectively with people with conflicting expectations, differing opinions, and multiple viewpoints and move forward with solutions.
• Relevant professional qualifications and/or experience – (e.g., ACII or equivalent, other leadership roles in claims).
• Proven experience managing claims across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks in Ireland (CBI) and the UK (FCA/PRA).
• Strong understanding of the Lloyd’s Oversight Framework including detailed knowledge of the Principles for Doing Business at Lloyd’s.
• Some travel is associated with this role.
