We have the opportunity for a
Underwriting Assistant to join our
Liability department here at
Tokio Marine Kiln. Reporting into the Departmental Manager of Liability, you will assist the Managers and Underwriters to carry out all tasks relating to the underwriting and reinsurance of the Department in order to provide appropriate customer focused products and maximize profitability, always bearing in mind the relationship between risk and return in respect of all underwriting activities.
The role includes responsibility for:
- To assist in the underwriting in accordance with the department manager’s instructions in respect of premiums, terms and conditions which are set in order to secure the planned underwriting profits in accordance with the Department's agreed Business Plans.
- To accurately and efficiently review relevant Binding Authorities (where applicable) to monitor rating, budgets, compliance and performance.
- To establish and develop business relationships with the Departments intermediaries, agents and business partners in order to secure business portfolios for the Departments that meet with the Business Plans and which are effectively handled to reduce the risk of mal-administration in the distribution process.
- Partnership with underwriters and maintenance of a general understanding of the account in order to assist underwriters, divisional manager and other stakeholders.
- To assist in coaching and training provided to graduates working with the Departments to ensure that they obtain a full understanding of the rating methodology, risk assessment and underwriting management processes used by the division.
- To liaise in a timely manner with internal departments to ensure requests for information, feedback or guidance are dealt with effectively and efficiently.
- To accurately record all insurance business within Tokio Marine Kiln’s systems so that risks can be properly monitored and reviewed by the Department and that data required for all external and internal reporting requirements is accurately captured and in accordance with relevant time limits.
- To provide relevant information for independent review and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Specific activities in respect of the underwriting, management and reinsurance of the Departments business portfolio, as determined by the Departmental Head, Departmental Manager and Divisional Head.
- Data entry and retrieval including report set-up and analysis. Departmental administration. Maintaining the underwriting and office filing system. Scanning and photocopying. Other Ad hoc tasks as required.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have some general office administration experience and will be comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of Lloyd’s and the insurance market is also advantageous but not essential. We are looking for a team player who has good attention to detail and confidence to work with a wide variety of people.
