Location: London. This role will be based in our London office, with some travel between our Phoenix offices.

Salary and benefits: £100,000 - £130,000 plus discretionary bonus, private medical cover, 38 days annual leave, excellent pension, 12x salary life assurance, career breaks, income protection, 3x volunteering days and much more.

We are pleased to announce an incredible, new career opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Quantitative Engineer to join our Quantitative Engineering team within the Retirement Solutions and Asset Management (RSAM) function. Joining at this stage you will be working in a fast paced and greenfield environment to lead the embedding of quantitative tools across Phoenix.
Context – RSAM Quant Engineering Team
Quantitative Engineering is a newly established team within Phoenix Asset Management. Working side by side with our portfolio managers and actuaries, Quants develop tools and models that enable us to make agile informed decisions to optimize our assets and risk and identify market opportunities.
The Role
The role will require engagement with various teams across RSAM, Actuarial, Finance, and Compliance, helping stakeholders identify core quantitative capabilities that can leverage our Python based Beacon software platform, and deliver quant tools, reports and applications that provide a single version of truth for analytics related to asset management portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Enable the Capital Markets Quant Engineering team to accelerate its delivery through partnering with various teams across RSAM, Actuarial, Finance, and Compliance to deliver tools, applications and reports that enable
- Better assessment and monitoring of risk
- Robust valuations of assets and liabilities
- End users to efficiently access and use the data, including through technical and user documentation
- Ensure that the outputs are of the utmost accuracy and reliability through development of automated tests, supporting Quant team’s own manual testing, supporting user acceptance testing, and supporting Compliance model validation
- Understand the derivative data, strategy, tooling and workflow within Phoenix and use this to ensure derivative positions are modelled and valued correctly
- Understand the matching adjustment and BPA valuation processes and calculations
- Identify End User Compute (EUC) and models in wider functions where effective solutions can be developed, then design and implement an end-to-end capability in partnership with each area to improve or retire EUCs all-together
- Continuously tune-in to strategic initiatives across the Capital Markets team to help prioritise deliveries to align in materiality to business objectives.
- Enhance the framework under which the Quant team builds and delivers its operating under appropriate controls
- Collaborate with other team members across the wider Quant Engineering to identify and solve problems, while being approachable and flexible

Qualifications
- University Degree or ideally Masters’ Degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Actuarial Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related quantitative field
Essential
Knowledge & Experience:
- Strong Python coding experience
- Derivatives modelling knowledge
- Track record of developing, executing and embedding new capabilities in fast moving functions
Desirable
- Experience with Beacon, Athena, SecDB or similar
- Experience with Excel / VBA
- Knowledge of the UK life insurance regulatory landscape including Solvency II
- Knowledge of IFRS accounting standard
- Cloud development experience (e.g. AWS / Azure)
- Knowledge of asset management and BPA business
- Familiarity with Software Development Lifecycle, controls, developing tests, and development best practice
