Job Profile Summary We are seeking for an experienced Head of Data Platforms to drive design and delivery of our cloud based enterprise data platform. This senior leadership role requires a strategic thinker with proven expertise in cloud-based data technologies including Azure, Snowflake, and Power BI, combined with solid leadership skills to drive our data platform evolution. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and executing our data platform strategy, leading a high-performing team of data engineers and analysts, and ensuring our data platform supports critical business objectives while maintaining the highest standards of security, governance, and regulatory compliance. Main Duties Leadership and Management Lead, develop, and inspire a team of data engineers and analysts, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture that drives innovation and excellence Align team objectives with company strategic goals, ensuring clear communication of priorities and expectations across all data platform initiatives Strategy and Leadership Define, communicate, and execute a data platform delivery plan that aligns with business objectives and supports the company's transformation initiatives Provide thought leadership on data architecture decisions, technology selection, and platform evolution to ensure competitive positioning in the London Market Collaborate with business stakeholders, including underwriting, claims, finance, and operations, to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions Drive data democratization initiatives that enable self-service analytics while maintaining appropriate governance and security controls Platform Development and Management Oversee the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and cost-effective data platforms leveraging technologies such as Azure, Snowflake, and Power BI Ensure integration of data platform with relevant applications including legacy systems, third-party applications, and modern cloud-native solutions Optimise data pipelines, storage architectures, and processing frameworks to deliver high-performance analytics capabilities that support real-time and batch processing requirements Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and disaster recovery capabilities to ensure maximum platform availability and reliability Maintain appropriate change management and testing procedures to minimize operational risk during platform updates and enhancements Data Governance and Security Establish data governance policies within the data platform to ensure data quality, consistency, lineage, and metadata management across all platform components Develop and enforce data privacy policies and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements including GDPR, ensuring appropriate handling of personal and sensitive data Create and maintain data classification schemes, retention policies, and audit trails that support regulatory reporting and compliance activities Innovation and Continuous Improvement Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in data engineering, analytics, and cloud, evaluating their potential application to our business Drive automation initiatives that improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and minimize operational risk across data workflows and platform management Foster a culture of experimentation and innovation, encouraging the team to explore new technologies and methodologies that can enhance platform capabilities Stakeholder Engagement Partner closely with business leaders across underwriting, claims, finance, and operations to understand evolving data requirements and translate them into platform enhancements Collaborate with IT infrastructure, software engineering, and cybersecurity teams to ensure seamless system integration and maintain security standards Manage relationships with external vendors, cloud providers, and technology partners to optimize service delivery and cost effectiveness Regulatory Responsibilities Ensure data platform activities comply with relevant industry regulations, including GDPR and other data privacy and retention measures Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, and Legal teams to ensure data handling practices meet all applicable regulatory standards and industry best practices Ensure data models comply with Lloyd’s market standards, regulatory data requirements, and governance policies. Support internal and external audits related to data structures Skills and Competencies Proven experience in data platform delivery within Commercial & Specialty Insurance A good understanding of Lloyd’s market operations, London Market processes Technical data engineering expertise with specific focus on Azure, Snowflake, Power BI Leadership and management experience appropriate for a senior role Experience working with cloud-based data platforms (Snowflake, MS Fabric, Databricks). Understanding of API-driven and event-driven data exchange patterns. Knowledge of data architecture frameworks (e.g., DAMA, TOGAF) and metadata management practices. Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field; industry certifications in data, cloud or insurance domain desirable.
