The Product Manager (m/f/d) (Prime, Europe) supports the scaling and localization of Markel’s digital underwriting platform Prime across European markets. The role focuses on operational workflows, broker engagement, and market readiness – ensuring platform stability, regulatory compliance, and adoption at scale. Working closely with product leadership, underwriting, engineering, and business development teams, this position drives consistency and continuous improvement of Prime across countries.
Looking for a role that combines insurance solutions with pioneering technology? Then welcome to Markel Prime!
Markel Prime is our innovative digital underwriting platform for European commercial insurance. Designed to deliver tailored, high-quality quotes with unprecedented speed and precision, Prime combines bold thinking, modern technology, and deep underwriting expertise to transform how insurance is underwritten and distributed. Unlike traditional models that wait for submissions to arrive, Prime proactively uses data, automation, and advanced workflows to identify prospects, pre-assess risks, and provide competitive quotes to brokers at scale – in seconds!
Following a successful launch in Germany, Prime is expanding into additional markets. These new markets bring exciting challenges - adapting to unique regulatory environments, insurance offerings, languages, and broker dynamics - while optimizing our proven model.
Prime is central to our strategy for growth across Europe.
To achieve this vision, we’re looking for a Product Manager (m/f/d) to join our next-generation product team, dedicated to innovation and impact.
This role will be based in Munich, Germany.
About the team:
You’ll join the Prime product team - a growing cross-functional European group, focusing primarily on Broker and Quote Conversion, driving broker adoption and engagement in each market.
You’ll work closely with the Senior Product Manager for Europe as well as the AI product owner, local business development teams, marketing specialists, CRM experts, and engineering teams.
About the role:
While the core platform is developed centrally, execution happens locally. As Product Manager you will play a key role in ensuring Prime fits each country’s insurance products, brokers’ needs, regulations, and customer dynamics as well as scaling Prime’s product model across markets (in an aligned and agile way).
The role requires hands-on problem-solving, cross-functional coordination, and close collaboration with underwriting, engineering, sales, and brokers, to make Prime work in practice – not just on paper. Over time, you will tackle broader platform-level ownership across Europe.
Responsibilities include managing CRM flows, underwriting logic, automation, document generation, and quote mechanics to ensure platform reliability and consistency across regions.
What you’ll be doing:
You will collaborate closely with the Senior Product Manager for Prime Europe, the AI Product Owner, and local stakeholders in Germany, France, Spain, and the Netherlands. Your core responsibility is to keep Prime operational at scale - resolving issues, refining workflows, and enabling localized execution across markets to ensure broker value and platform consistency.
Platform Workflows & Operational Enablement
- Own and continuously improve Prime’s core operational workflows - including CRM status transitions, document flows, quote triggers, and lifecycle automation
- Define rollout standards, configuration templates, test cases, and platform documentation to ensure stability and scale
- Support local teams through structured handovers, testing coordination, and platform configuration assistance
Triage & Friction Management
- Lead structured triage of platform issues across underwriting, sales, engineering, and broker feedback channels
- Identify and resolve recurring blockers - from status conflicts to document mismatches and stalled quote flows
- Establish diagnostics, monitoring routines, and feedback loops to surface and fix issues before they advance
Broker Workflow & Market Readiness
- Join and lead onboarding sessions and broker-facing meetings to understand workflows, expectations, and objections across regions
- Collaborate with business development and underwriting to adapt prompts, documents, and flows to reflect local needs and regulatory requirements
- Ensure all regional assets - from onboarding communications to quote templates - are compliant, tested, and production-ready
Product Thinking & System Scaling
- Own cross-market platform initiatives that improve delivery, automation, or user experience at scale
- Contribute to a test–learn–adapt rhythm for continuous improvement of operational logic and system flows
- Share findings, reusable components, and workflow patterns with product peers to strengthen consistency across countries
Key Skills:
- Experience in Product Management ideally in Insurtech roles (e.g. underwriting, digital insurance)
- A strong grasp of commercial insurance, including broker distribution models, quoting flows
- Familiarity with CRM platforms (preferably Microsoft Dynamics) and automation tools
- Strong understanding of methodologies in product discovery, experimentation, and validation techniques (e.g., interviews, user testing, iteration loops)
- Comfortable navigating regulatory and compliance requirements in insurance, and translating them into product specs or constraints
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical collaborators, such as brokers and underwriters
- Data-driven perspective with the ability to define and track key performance indicators related to product adoption and broker engagement
- A hands-on, pragmatic attitude and a willingness to dive into operations, systems, and customer feedback loops
- Exposure to AI-enhanced workflows, prompt logic, or automated underwriting
- Fluency in English and either German, French, Spanish or Dutch is required
