This role will be responsible for the strategy, design, analysis and implementation of the marketing and communications relationships between Markel Specialty and their partners, while utilizing internal tools to report out results. This role will work closely with internal customers to deliver market expansion while maintaining compliance with legal requirements. The role will drive marketing programs to build audiences and to drive engagement through all marketing channels while working cross-functionally to ensure best practices.
Position Summary:
Markel is seeking a high-impact, growth-minded leader to manage and expand our team of Horse Insurance Specialists. This role is responsible for driving sales performance, developing talent, and accelerating our footprint across all equine disciplines. The ideal candidate will bring a winning mindset, a passion for the equine industry, committed to building strong relationships within the equine community and a proven ability to lead teams to exceed ambitious goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales Leadership & Growth Strategy
- Own and drive the team’s sales performance across all equine disciplines, with a focus on increasing submission volume, binder conversion, and overall premium growth.
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans aligned with company goals, including territory expansion, new market penetration, and production source development.
- Establish clear, measurable sales goals and KPIs for individual producers and the team as a whole.
- Monitor performance metrics regularly, providing coaching, feedback, and accountability to ensure consistent progress and results.
- Identify and capitalize on emerging opportunities in the equine insurance space, reporting insights and growth strategies to senior leadership.
Team Development & Talent Acquisition
- Lead, inspire, and mentor a geographically dispersed team of equine insurance agents across various disciplines.
- Foster a high-performance culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Support professional development through training, performance reviews, and individualized growth plans.
- Proactively recruit new sales talent and production sources to strengthen and diversify the team.
Industry Engagement & Relationship Building
- Attend horse shows and equine events alongside the team to deepen relationships, support sales efforts, and enhance brand visibility.
- Represent Markel within the equine community, building trust and credibility across disciplines.
Reporting & Collaboration
- Provide regular performance updates, market intelligence, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with underwriting, marketing, and operations to ensure alignment and support for sales initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in sales leadership, preferably in insurance or equine-related industries.
- Deep understanding of the equine industry and its unique dynamics.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and drive performance.
- Exceptional communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel regularly to support team members and attend industry events.
- Strategic thinker with a track record of driving growth, innovation, and a passion for building winning teams.
