Position Summary
The Executive Reinsurance Underwriter is responsible for providing strategic direction for high-level reinsurance underwriting decisions, shaping complex coverage terms, conditions, and pricing strategies, for the reinsurance portfolio. The role engages in strategic negotiations, leads business development, growth of reinsurance book of business and contributes to long-term profitability and market positioning. They ensure alignment with corporate objectives, drive innovation in underwriting practices, and adopt advanced technologies for enhanced efficiency.
What will your job entail?
Job Responsibilities:
• Delivers profitable growth through effective risk selection, premiums, coverage, and drives remediation strategies for Reinsurance business.
• Makes high-level underwriting decisions for complex reinsurance coverage, setting overarching terms, conditions, and pricing strategies. Grows reinsurance business with sourcing, underwriting, and execution of assumed reinsurance business through other channels.
• Provides strategic direction and ensures the reinsurance underwriting practices comply with evolving regulatory requirements and industry standards and oversees the entire portfolio.
• Partners with senior management to set clear objectives and strategies, manages annual budget process and assists in strategic matters relevant to the overall direction of the portfolio.
• Reviews reinsurance proposals, ensures accuracy and completeness of information, and conducts due diligence on the cedent's underwriting practices.
• Underwrites reinsurance policy renewals, considering changes in risk factors, market conditions, and cedent performance.
• Evaluates risks associated with reinsurance proposals, considering factors such as the cedent's portfolio, underwriting guidelines, and exposure limits.
• Develops the annual plan, conducts in-depth strategic market analysis, and provides insights into emerging trends, opportunities, and potential threats.
• Drives innovation in reinsurance underwriting practices, exploring, and implementing new methodologies, technologies, and approaches to enhance competitiveness and efficiency.
• Manages relationships with key clients, brokers, and industry partners, ensuring the organization is positioned as a key player in the reinsurance market.
• Leads crisis management efforts related to significant reinsurance events, developing, and implementing strategic risk mitigation plans to safeguard the organization's financial stability.
• Prepares and presents strategic reports on reinsurance activities, performance metrics, and market trends to the executive leadership, offering insights and strategic recommendations.
• Coaches the reinsurance underwriting staff, identifies and adopts technologies and analytical tools that enhance the efficiency and capabilities of the reinsurance underwriting function.
Work Experience and Education:
• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred; Statistics, Economics and Risk Management preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
• 12+ years of experience in Reinsurance Underwriting with a Bachelor’s degree, or 8 years and a Master’s degree.
Licenses & Certifications:
• State P&C and/or surplus line licenses required.
• Associate in Reinsurance (ARE), or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) is a plus.

The target salary range for this position is $224,000.00 - $280,000.00 annually.
The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
