Amwins Program Underwriters (APU) is seeking an underwriter to join its Professional Liability underwriting team. Hybrid role (2-3 days in-office) based in Edison, NJ. The underwriter will focus exclusively on underwriting for various Lawyers’ Professional Liability programs. The position requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and maintaining the highest service standards. The underwriter will collaborate closely with brokers (both retail and wholesale), insurance carriers, and the underwriting team to build and maintain a profitable portfolio.
APU LPL Programs
- Focus on firms with 1-40 attorneys
- Both admitted and non-admitted products
- Products for standard risk firms, “hard-to-place” firms, and IP specialist firms.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite Professional Liability (E&O) insurance for small law firms
- Evaluate new business and renewals for pricing and coverage in accordance with established underwriting guidelines
- Solicit and cultivate new business opportunities
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with brokers to drive growth and profitability
- Maintain profitable renewal business through active relationship management and timely quotations.
- Monitor underwriting results to ensure adherence to growth targets and target loss ratios.
- Stay current on segment trends, including emerging exposures.
Requirements
- 2+ years’ experience as an underwriter or insurance broker in professional lines preferred.
- Active P&C license preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Experience with AI tools a plus.
- Existing relationships with LPL brokers in this market segment a plus.
